AbstractAbstract
[en] The thermoluminescent (TL) properties of amorphous aluminium oxide thin films (thicknesses as low as 0.3 μm) subjected to gamma (Co-60) irradiation are reported. Aluminium oxide thin films were prepared by laser ablation from an Al2O3 target using a Nd: YAG laser with emission at the fundamental line. The films were exposed to gamma radiation (Co-60) in order to study their TL response. Thermoluminescence glow curves exhibited two peaks at 110 and 176 C. The high temperature peak shows good stability and 30% fading in the first 5 days after irradiation. A linear relationship between absorbed dose and the thermoluminescent response for doses span from 150 mGy to 100 Gy was observed. These results suggest that aluminium oxide thin films are suitable for detection and monitoring of gamma radiation. (Author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A source of microwaves plasma type ECR was used to modify those mechanical properties of the surface of steel pieces AISI 4140. The experiments were carried out in a range of pressure among 4 X 10-4 and 7 X 10-4 Torr using one mixture of gases 60/40 hydrogen / nitrogen and an incident power of the microwaves of 400 W. Previous to the treatment of the samples, the plasma was studied using one Langmuir probe to determine the temperature of the electrons and the density of the plasma, the species excited in the plasma were determined by means of Optical emission spectroscopy. All the samples were treated during 50 min in a regime of low temperature (- 250 C), and the surface hardness it was increased up of 100% of their initial value, with a depth of penetration of the nitrogen of 4.5 μ m. The biggest hardness and depth of penetration of the nitrogen were obtained when the biggest density in the plasma was used to carry out the experiments. (Author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The performance of the photo electrocatalysts materials depends on one hand of the it structures of the crystalline lattice and of their surface properties, those which in turn are determined by the material preparation method. In this work the laser ablation technique to obtain thin films of titanium dioxide on recovered glass with tin oxide is presented. The carried out analyses showed homogeneous films, one of amorphous titanium oxide with a band width of 3.43 eV and the other one with anatase structure with a band energy of 3.41 eV. The photoresponse for the oxygen detachment it was better for the anatase. In a 0.1M KOH medium it was found corrosion in the films. (Author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Thin films of titanium nitride were deposited using the technique of laser ablation. It was studied the effect of the density of laser energy used for ablation the target as well as of the pressure of the work gas about the structure and the hardness of the deposited thin films. Depending on the pressure of the work gas films was obtained with preferential orientation in the directions (200) and (111). At a pressure of 1 x 10-2 Torr only the direction (200) was observed. On the other hand to the pressure of 5 x 10-3 Torr the deposited material this formed by a mixture of the orientation (200) and (111), being the direction (111) the predominant one. Thin films of Ti N were obtained with hardness of up to 24.0 GPa that makes to these attractive materials for mechanical applications. The hardness showed an approximately linear dependence with the energy density. (Author)
