AbstractAbstract
[en] We have made a careful analysis of the effect of statistical uncertainty in the form of the antineutron-nucleus potential on the value of the neutron-antineutron mixing time. Using a bias-free optical potential derived from fits to the (anti p,12C) scattering data at 47 MeV, together with the IMB and Kamiokande results for the lifetime of 16O, we set lower limits on the neutron-antineutron mixing time τnsub(anti n) of > 1.1x108 s and 1.5x108 s, respectively, both at the 90% confidence level. We adopt the theoretical approach of Dover, Gal and Richard to extract these limits from the 16O data. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The pion-nucleon backward scattering data at 3.5 GeV/c are fitted with two Regge-type models which were first used at 6 GeV/c: a good description of the data is obtained; however the parameters differ significantly from those at 6 GeV/c. A simultaneous fit at 3.5 and 6 GeV/c can be made with Nsub(α) and Nsub(γ) Regge amplitudes, if the non-Regge terms are fitted with separate sets of parameters at each energy. (Auth.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The polarization parameter in π-p→K+Σ- backward scattering has been measured at 3.5 GeV/c incident momentum, in the u-range -0.6< u<0.1 GeV2. The apparatus consisted of a polarized target in a spectrometer magnet, counter hodoscopes for time-of-flight measurements, a larger water Cerenkov counter for kaon tagging, and wire spark chambers. After identification of the kaons, the reaction was selected by a missing-mass technique. An isospin analysis has been carried out to separate the contributions of the various isospin exchange amplitudes in the u-channel. (Auth.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The polarization parameter has been measured for π-p elastic scattering in the backward region at 3.5 GeV/c incident momentum. The experimental set-up consisted of a polarized target in a spectrometer magnet, hodoscopes and wire spark chambers. Data are presented for the range -0.95< u<=-0.19 GeV2. An isospin analysis has been carried out to separate the Isub(u)=1/2 and Isub(u)=3/2 contributions. (Auth.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The authors describe a method which provides the coordinates along the trajectory of a particle traversing an axially symmetric magnetic field. The momentum of the particle is evaluated with a simple algorithm when the detectors which measure the coordinates of the particle trajectory are of cylindrical shape. (Auth.)
