[en] In this thesis the nucleon structure function xF3 is determined from the inclusive measurement of the deep inelastic neutrino nucleon charged current interaction. The data were taken in the CERN wide band neutrino beam using the detector of the CERN-Dortmund-Heidelberg-Saclay collaboration. This detector serves at the same time as target, as hadron energy calorimeter and as muon spectrometer. One major aspect of this work was to study the possibility of using high statistics wide band beam data for structure function analysis. The systematic errors specific to this kind of beam are investigated. To obtain the differential cross sections about 100000 neutrino and 75000 antineutrino events in the energy range 20-200 GeV are analysed. The differential cross sections are normalized to the total cross sections, as measured in the narrow band beam by the same collaboration. The calculated structure function xF3 shows significant deviations from scaling. These scaling violations are compared quantitatively with the predictions of quantum chromodynamics. (orig.)

In dieser Arbeit wird die Nukleonstrukturfunktion xF3 aus der inklusiven Messung der tiefinelastischen Neutrino-Nukleon-Streuung mit Ladungsaustausch bestimmt. Die Daten wurden im CERN-Neutrino-Breitbandstrahl mit dem Detektor der CERN-Dortmund-Heidelberg-Saclay Kollaboration aufgenommen, der gleichzeitig die Funktion eines Targets, eines Hadronenergie-Kalorimeters und eines Myonspektrometers erfuellt. Ein Hauptinteresse an dieser Arbeit lag im Studium der Moeglichkeit, im Breitbandstrahl Strukturfunktionen mit hoher Statistik messen zu koennen. Die spezifisch bei der Verwendung eines solchen Strahls auftretenden systematischen Fehler werden untersucht. Fuer die Bestimmung der differentiellen Wirkungsquerschnitte werden im Energiebereich von 20 GeV bis 200 GeV etwa 100000 Neutrino- und 75000 Antineutrinoereignisse analysiert. Die Normierung der gemessenen differentiellen Wirkungsquerschnitte erfolgt ueber die von der gleichen Kollaboration im Schmalbandstrahl gemessenen totalen Wirkungsquerschnitte. Die berechnete Strukturfunktion xF3 weist signifikante Abweichungen vom Skalenverhalten auf. Diese Skalenverletzungen werden quantitativ mit den Vorhersagen der Quantenchromodynamik verglichen. AbstractAbstract
[en] A furnace for growing single crystals of metals and metal alloys by the floating zone technique has been constructed. This makes it possible to grow single crystals of materials with a phase transition in their high temperature phase in situ on a neutron scattering instrument. Without the crystals being cooled below their transition temperature they can be oriented and a neutron scattering experiment can be performed. The typical crystal size is about 5 cm3. The furnace is designed for continuous operation up to 2000 K under ultrahigh vacuum or high purity gas atmospheres. It gives access to a 3600 neutron scattering plane with a maximum angle of inclination of ±200. (orig.)

[en] The authors have calibrated a magnetized iron-scintillator sandwich calorimeter in a hadron beam, finding an energy resolution equal to 16% fwhm at 140 GeV with 5 cm sampling. The hadron energy resolution fwhm(mean) improves as Esup(-1/2) between 15 and 140 GeV. No effect due to the magnetic field was observed. Longitudinal and lateral shower containment were also investigated. (Auth.)

[en] A study of prompt neutrino events from 400 GeV protons on a beam-dump is presented. The ratio of electron- to muon-neutrino rates in 0.86±0.14, in agreement with e-μ universality. The anti-neutrino to neutrino flux ratio is anti νμ/νμ=0.81±0.19. The absolute rates and distributions observed are shown to be in quantitative agreement with the known properties of charmed-quark production in hadron collisions. (orig.)

[en] The CDHS neutrino detector has been used to measure events originating in a tank of liquid hydrogen and in the iron of the detector. Total cross-sections, differential cross-sections, and structure functions are given for hydrogen and compared with those in iron. The measurements are in agreement with the expectations of the quark parton model. No significant differences indicative of nuclear binding effects in corresponding structure functions of protons and iron are observed. This may be of special interest in the case of the sea structure functions, since large differences are expected in some models. (orig.)
