AbstractAbstract
[en] Empirical p-n interaction strengths have been extracted from experimental mass data using double-difference binding energy equations. The especially strong interactions for self-conjugate nuclei will be discussed as well as microstructure found for deformed and in doubly magic regions. Valence correlation schemes provide a basis to comment on the stability of medium mass near-drip-line nuclei and superheavy elements. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Sodium NMR spectroscopy and imaging studies have the potential of contributing physiological and clinical information which is unavailable from either proton or phosphorus studies. This report will detail some of the capabilities of sodium NMR as well as the inherent difficulties involved in such studies. (orig./MG)

[en] Empirical values of ε/Δ, the ratio of quadrupole deformation to the pairing gap parameter, are compared to the P factor for even-even nuclei from Z=42--98. The correlation is found to be remarkable and suggestive of predictive power for unknown nuclei

AbstractAbstract
[en] Empirical valence p-n interaction strengths for nuclei in the Z=50-82, N=82-126 region have been extracted from experimental mass data using double-difference binding energy equations. The results are discussed in terms the quantity (fZ-fN) which compares the fractional filling of the respective proton and neutron shells. New data from recent mass measurements at ATLAS are used to extend this analysis for even-Z, odd-N nuclei. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] β-ray end-point energies for the decay of 150Er and 151Er were measured using a plastic scintillator-Ge, β+-γ coincidence spectrometer. Mass excess values are reported for these nuclides and for members of the α-decay chain which terminates at 151Er. Our results are compared with predictions of mass formulas and with extrapolations based on systematic properties for other nuclei. copyright 1998 The American Physical Society
