AbstractAbstract
[en] The existing data on the strangeness -2 two-baryon mass spectrum is reviewed and a new experiment is proposed to explore this spectrum from 100 MeV below the mass of the lightest known two-baryon strangeness -2 system, ΛΛ, to 20 MeV above the ΛΛ mass. The proposed experiment is motivated by Jaffe's 1977 prediction of a six-quark object with strangeness -2 and J/sup π/ = 0+ at a mass of 2150. This particle, called the ''H'', has been predicted by later bag models as well. Calculations indicate the proposed experiment will be a sensitive test of the dibaryon theories. 12 refs

AbstractAbstract
[en] Hypernuclei whose ground states are stable against strong decay are used to study two-baryon weak interactions. A review of th existing experimental data, including recent results from the AGS on /sub Λ/12C and /sub Λ/11B, shows that the lifetimes and branching ratios can be used to test the effective weak Hamiltonians used in the rate calculations. 10 refs., 4 figs

AbstractAbstract
[en] An experimental configuration is described that would search for the H dibaryon in the reaction K- + 3He → K+ + H + n. In particular, the design of the K+ spectrometer is discussed as well as event rate estimates and the technical details of the efficient background rejection required to make the experiment feasible. 7 refs., 11 figs

AbstractAbstract
[en] This paper presents motivations and count rate estimates for two experiments involving S=-2 systems, ΛΛ weak interaction studies and a method for measuring the Ξ- - Ξ0 mass splitting. The experiments appear difficult to execute with the kaon beams presently available but are candidates for the JHF. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The study of systems with strangeness -2 provides an opportunity to extend models of the baryon-baryon interactions which have been tested largely against data obtained in the non-strange sector. This paper presents motivations for examining the strangeness -2 sector and reviews the experimental difficulties responsible for the sparsity of data. The status of two ongoing experiments at the AGS, E885 and E906, are presented. copyright 1997 American Institute of Physics

AbstractAbstract
[en] A bound, strangeness -2 dibaryon, called the H, has been predicted by the bag model confinement theories. This paper reviews several attempts to find evidence supporting the existence of the H as well as indirect experimental data. Although no compelling evidence for the H exists, the data have limited sensitivity and the existence of the H cannot be ruled out. A proposed experiment designed to search for the H is also reviewed and calculations indicate this experiment will be a sensitive test of the dibaryon theories. (orig.)
