AbstractAbstract
[en] Single arm spectrometer measurements of the differential cross sections and analyzing powers of the pp→pnπ+ reaction have been performed at 400 and 450 MeV incident proton energy. The measurements covering an angular range from 460 to 900 (lab) spanned pion energies corresponding to production of the np system with relative energies between 0 and 30 MeV, a region where the influence of the np final state interaction is particularly important. The trend of the measured analyzing power is very similar to that of the pp→dπ+ reaction, and is well explained by calculations that use this latter data as input. Dominance of the triplet pn final state is implied by these results

AbstractAbstract
[en] Inclusive differential cross sections and analyzing powers of the (p,π+) reaction on 12C have been obtained at 400 and 450 MeV incident proton energies. The energy domain investigated spans the region of pion energies that arise in the pp→dπ+ reaction, a reaction which was measured at the same time. A 65 cm Browne-Buechner spectrometer, in a single-arm configuration, was used for detecting the pions. Measurements were made in the angular range of 460--880 (lab). At forward angles the measured analyzing powers in the 12C(p,π+)X reaction are quantitively similar to those of the pp→dπ+ and pp→pnπ+ reactions, but at backward angles they are considerably more negative. The analyzing power data for angles < or approx. =700 (lab) are consistent with the predictions of a simple quasifree model that incorporates the free pN→NNπ+ data. Moreover, this model makes a reasonable prediction of the overall strength of the differential cross sections and also reproduces the qualitative shape of the pion energy distributions

AbstractAbstract
[en] The analyzing power angular distributions Ay(THETA) for the 10Beg.s. as well as the 10Be(3.37 state transitions from the 9Be(p, +)10Be reaction are reported as a function of incident proton energy from 200 to 250 MeV. Instead of the dramatic dependence on energy characterizing the 12C(p>, π+)13C reaction, the analyzing power for the present reaction shows little variation with energy. At energies above 200 MeV the analyzing power angular distibutions exhibited by the (p>, +) reactions on 9Be and 12C are markedly different, unlike the earlier observations at 200 MeV where the distribution was essentially the same

AbstractAbstract
[en] Analyzing power measurements of the pp→π+d reaction have been made at proton bombarding energies of 400 and 450 MeV, over the angular range from 76--1190 center of mass. The data at 400 MeV confirm older measurements; no previous data at 450 MeV have been reported. A comparison of these data with theoretical predictions of Niskanen reveals generally good agreement, although the data tend to exhibit slightly greater asymmetry about 900 than predicted by theory

AbstractAbstract
[en] The angular distributions of both the differential cross section and the analyzing power are presented for the sup10B(p,πsup+) sup11B reaction leading to the ground and first excited states of sup11B. The differential cross section shows very little angular structure or energy dependence, but the analyzing power exhibits a considerable energy dependence for both states. This dependence, similar to that observed for the sup12C(p,πsup+) sup13C reaction, may be a signature of the fact that single-particle final states are involved

AbstractAbstract
[en] The analyzing power A/sub N0/ of the pp→π+d reaction was measured to a statistical precision of better than +- 0.01 at incident proton beam energies of 375, 450, and 500 MeV, for center-of-mass angles from 200 to 1500. The polarization-dependent differential cross sections were fit by associated Legendre functions (using published data for the shapes of the unpolarized differential cross sections). The energy dependence of the resulting b/sub k//sup N0/ coefficients were compared with existing data and theoretical expectations

AbstractAbstract
[en] The absolute differential cross section for proton-proton elastic scattering has been measured at 900 c.m. for 300, 350, 400, 450 and 500 MeV. The statistical uncertainty of the measurements is 0.5 percent with and additional systematic normalization uncertainty of 1.8 percent. The results are compared to phase shift analyses
