AbstractAbstract
[en] On August 20th 2004 the International Technology Recommendation Panel (ITRP) released its recommendation that the Linear Collider be based on Superconducting RF Technology. Following a request of the organizers of this conference we summarise in this article the arguments worked out and presented by the ITRP, which led to this recommendation. The main features of both RF-technologies, the favoured L-band RF system of the superconducting version of the Linear Collider and the X-band-technology anticipated for the normal-conducting alternative are briefly described. AbstractAbstract
[en] The RF needs for the TESLA Test Facility a DESY are described. Possible klystron-modulator schemes, the waveguide RF distribution system, phase and amplitude control, beam loading, and a scheme to cope with detuning of the cavities due to Lorentz forces are described. Finally, some persectives for the development of new RF sources are discussed

AbstractAbstract
[en] The design goal of the TESLA Test facility (TTF) to demonstrate the possibility of routine operation at 15 MV/m with superconducting 9-cell cavities has been more than achieved. Average accelerating gradients in the cryomodule up to 23 MV/m have been reached. Average gradients well above 25 MV/m have been achieved for the 9-cell cavities from the latest production series. For electropolished one-cell cavities up to 43 MV/m have been reached. The rf source for TESLA, the 10 MW multibeam-klystron has produced full power at 65% efficiency, and it has been operating now at the TTF for over 1000 hrs. High grain self-amplified spontaneous emission at wave length ranging from 80 to 181 nm has been demonstrated

Primary Subject

AbstractAbstract
[en] After the end of the very successful operation of the TESLA Test Facility in November 2002, the modification of TTF into a VUV FEL user facility took place during the years 2003 and 2004. The injector complex was completely modified. By the beginning of this year 5 cryomodules were installed and the vacuum system was closed. For bunch length measurements there is a special S-band structure driven by a SLAC 5045 Klystron and an Electro-Optical-Sampling Experiment. Six undulator modules of 30 m total length have also been installed. Until May 2004 the five cryogenic modules and their rf power input couplers were conditioned up to full rf power. In one cavity of the first module an accelerating gradient of 35 MV/m with beam could be demonstrated. The last module (No.5) can be reliably operated at an average gradient of 25 MV/m. So far, beam has been sent only through the first module and through the first bunch compressor. First emittance measurements show values around 3 pmm mrad. In the second half of this year completion of installation of technical components like power supplies, beam diagnostic elements etc. took place prior to full commissioning of the entire machine which started in the beginning of September.
