AbstractAbstract
[en] There is a model of fire in an enclosure formed by two rooms. In one of them, it will cause the fire and check how the system of ventilation in different configurations responds. In addition, the behavior of selected targets, which will be a configuration of cables similar to those found in nuclear power stations will be analyzed.

[en] The main areas where improvements in comparison to the current situation will be required are: response to prolonged loss of power supply, availability of additional cooling of the core sources, new measures to ensure the integrity of the containment, monitoring and control of the cooling of the spent fuel pool, revision of guidelines, management of severe accidents and existence of centers or organizations external emergency control. Associated training and coaching needs will require the updating of simulators.

AbstractAbstract
[en] Preliminary studies on the synthesis of 2 - [18 F]-fluoro-2-deoxy-d-glucose (2 - [18 F]-FDG) were carried out by means of the nucleophilic method proposed by K. Hamacher and the 18 F obtained in the Nuclear Reactor TRIGA Mark III of the Nuclear Center of Mexico. For the control of radiochemical quality it was used the chromatography technique in paper and silica gel with 4 solvent systems. The identification of the marked species with 18 F was carried out by means of comparison of its Rf with the Rf of the obtained not radioactive species, using the same synthesis method. (Author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The forests policy of most of tropical countries is directed initially toward the use of Wood resources and, secondarily, for firewood. Nevertheless, tropical forests generate other products that, in some countries, can have a high value, comparable with those of wood, called 'Non Timber Forest Products' (NTFP) or 'Non Wood Forest Products' (NWFP). Unfortunately this label does not enhance the fact that its harvest is an important activity in rural economies. The NTFP have motivated interest by their economic and social contribution in many countries, mainly for rural populations? all along Latin America are utilized, and, particularly in Colombia, it is necessary to regulate clearly and accurately their exploitation. Here we present a conceptual framework for the NTFP's, and describe the potential contribution of mangroves to this market in Colombia

AbstractAbstract
[en] The fire simulation and analytical validation procedures have been gaining importance in the context of safety analysis and probabilistic deterministic Fire at Nuclear Power Plants. Meanwhile, the fire simulation codes have been accepted as valuable tools for risk analysis in fire protection. To evaluate the quality and predictability of the codes used in fire protection, they are validated with different experiments. This work is performed to find the dependency of the FDS output parameters against a certain input.

AbstractAbstract
[en] GE Nuclear Energy's NobleChem''TM technology achieves BWR internals protection against IGSCC with very low hydrogen injection rates and minimized impact on operating dose rates due to little to no N-16 increase in Main Steam Lines. The NobleChem method consists of the injection of a dilute inorganic noble metal solution into the reactor water for a short period of time while the reactor is held in a specific temperature range. The noble metals (Pt and Rh) deposit on the wetted material surfaces that then behave catalytically resulting in the reduction of the Electrochemical Corrosion Potential (ECP). The first in-plant application was performed at the Duane Arnold BWR in October 1996. After the first cycle of operation (18 months) the noble metal treatment has demonstrated complete effectiveness. During the April 1998 Refueling Outage at Duane Arnold, several inspections were performed to evaluate the effects of noble metal on fuel after one cycle of exposure. The available results confirm that the application of NobleChem during plant shutdown into a refueling outage did not have any detrimental impact on fuel. In view of these excellent results, several utilities have decided to apply NobleChem. FitzPatrick and Peach Bottom 2 will apply this Fall while at least five more BWRs have plans for 1999 applications. (Author)
