AbstractAbstract
[en] The fabrication and development of a source with confined electron beam (EBIS) is the result of a collaboration between IPN (Institut de Physique Nucleaire) and AFI (Forskningstitutet for Atom-fysik) First tests have confirmed the good operation of the whole elements. A critical balance is made, and conclusions are drawn

AbstractAbstract
[en] The main characteristics of the new multipurpose electron beam ion source of the Synchrotron Saturne II are described. The different parts of the scheme are discussed and the choices justified. This source will use: an external gun with a variable post-magneto compression; an atomic beam generator injecting through the gun cathode either polarized particles or heavy atoms; a superconducting solenoid (1,5 m-3 T) with a room temperature inner diameter; an ultra high vacuum produced into the source by means of a liquid helium cooled cryopannel

[en] This report gives a method to calculate by computer-programming the FRECH II-electron beam density. This method consists in taking current measurements on a 1/10 mm tungsten-wire, to determine the electron-beam density profile

AbstractAbstract
[en] It is the purpose of this report to discuss the scattering of waves in a uniform cylindrical waveguide in which a perturbation has been introduced. A sketch of the physics involved in propagating high-frequency electromagnetic waves along a waveguide is given. In particular, the modal expansion of the field in a uniform guide is discussed, as well as the necessity for introducing discontinuities (i.e. perturbations) in the guide. Furthermore, the physical significance of the scattering matrix is pointed out. (Auth.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The tests made on the FRECH 1 electron gun which provided an electron density higher than 500A/cm2 with 10KV accelerating voltage and an intensity of 2A are summarized. These results allow the design of the FRECH 2 gun which meets the requirements of the CRYEBIS ion source

AbstractAbstract
[en] Public opinion and news-media perceptions of nuclear energy are like reeds blowing in the wind. Both attitudes and knowledge tend to be superficial and subject to frequent change. US Council for Energy Awareness (USCEA) research has shown that fully half of the American public will change their minds about nuclear energy even within a short period of time. This mushiness in public acceptance, as the pollsters call it, poses a key challenge for industry communicators: public information efforts cannot be sporadic; they must be constant, consistent, and pervasive
