AbstractAbstract
[en] A high-voltage system enduring 300 kV voltage over a 10-cm vacuum gap with a total leakage current of 10-8 A order, is described. The high-voltage electric field area is enclosed by a solid insulator (beryllium oxide) and beryllium electrodes, i.e. materials that are most suitable for storing ultracold neutrons (UCN). Thus, the given system is a model of experimental chamber for searching the neutron electric dipole moment (EDM) using UCN. A possibility of production of 30 kV/cm electric fields is shown. There is no necessity in purifying the system with a gas discharge and improve the contact between an insulator and an electrode by metallizing their face ends and using insulating pads of soft metals

AbstractAbstract
[en] The angular distribution of ultracold neutrons (UCN) produced by the inelastic scattering of cold (8.9 A) neutrons in superfluid 4He and show that it is isotopic at zero UCN energy, while at the limiting velocity of UCN (8 m/s, there is a 6% asymmetry in the forward- vs. backward-directed UCN production rate are calculated. Although this is a relatively wear effect, it should be included in accurate Monte Carlo simulations of proposed and existing superfluid 4He UCN sources

AbstractAbstract
[en] Although general relativity is compatible with symmetry violations induced by other interactions these effects are expected to be very small. Symmetry violations in the gravitational interaction itself are discussed and existing experimental data considered. Possible neutron experiments are examined. (U.K.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Since their first production in 1968 Ultra-Cold Neutrons (UCN) have been used in the most sensitive search for the P and T violating neutron electric dipole moment (edm) and the most accurate measurement of the neutrons's β decay lifetime. The main advantage of UCN in these and similar experiments derives from the fact that UCN can be stored for long periods of time in material and magnetic bottles thus allowing significantly longer measurement times than classical beam experiments. A short summary of the physics of UCN is presented, intended to serve as an introduction to the talks of Doyle and Lamoreaux at the same conference. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] We discuss the proposal of Freedman, Ringo and Dombeck (Nucl. Instr. and Meth. A 396 (1997) 181) to search for the neutron electric dipole moment using the acceleration of ultracold neutrons in an inhomogeneous electric field followed by amplification of the resulting displacement by several methods involving spin independent interactions (gravity) or reflection from curved (spin independent) mirrors. We show that the proposed technique is inferior to the usual methods based on magnetic resonance
