AbstractAbstract
[en] This invention has been directed at the determination of insulator layer defects on semiconductor wafers in particular at a simple complete and reliable determination of the defect density and its distribution within the insulator layers. The procedure ensures a high lateral resolving power, renders possible a defect distribution documentation, and also comprises such defects not going up to the semiconductor surface and the insulator layer surface resp. The insulator layer has a contact with radioactively labelled liquid media. The radioactive materials are selectively deposited at the defects and the insulator layer is gradually abraded by means of insulator layer specific liquid etchants. After each etching step an autoradiographic evaluation is carried out. Radionuclides of heavy metals are preferably used for radioactive labelling

AbstractAbstract
[en] Automatic translation: This report describes the technical details for controlling the oven temperatures in the: the furnace temperatures in the. time-stand test field of the IRW (ZEMAK I): constructional details of the creep rupture furnaces, the electronic controllers, procedures heating of the furnaces. The sample temperatures are measured with sheath - NiCr - Ni - TE using a data acquisition system with alarm device. The calibration of the TE is part of the precision measurement of the sample temperature, the measurement of the temperature field in the creep furnace, a suitable arrangement of the PD on the sample, checking the TS calibration points, test equipment for the data acquisition system. An error estimate for the measurement of the sample temperature shows that the DIN regulation for deviations from the target temperature is complied with. is adhered to.

AbstractAbstract
[en] Operation of a new irradiation facility at the beam stop (Target Station A-6) at the Clinton P. Anderson Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility(LAMPF)began in May 1985. The facility is now fully operational. A closed-loop water system, a closed-loop helium system, remote handling procedure for activated materials, experiment change-out procedures, and experiment control equipment are all in place. Experience dictated a change in irradiation capsules from a system that used metal seals to a system that is completely welded. The seals were found to be unreliable and difficult to replace by remote means. Several materials have been irradiated in the direct 760-MeV proton beam. Material property changes as well as a helium production in a variety of materials are being investigated. A special sample holder that ca accommodate transmission electron microscopy(TEM)specimens, isolate them from the cooling medium, maintain fixed temperature, and retain essentially a stress-free state has been developed. Remote handling retrieval of these specimens is being developed. Activation foil measurements are being made to determine the secondary particle flux and spectrum (charged particles and neutrons) that result from interaction of the direct proton beam with targets at the beam stop

AbstractAbstract
[en] Nickel-based coatings by plasma transferred arc (PTA) for protection of components are widely applied to withstand operations under corrosion in different media. This paper characterized Nickel-based C276 alloy coatings obtained by Plasma Transferred Arc (PTA) on two different substrates, AISI 316L and API 5L X70 steels, correlating their features to hardness. Coatings were deposited utilizing three different intensity current levels, 120, 150 and 180 A and were characterized by optical, Laser confocal and scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. Vickers hardness profiles on transversal section were carried out. Produced coatings exhibited a microstructure of austenite (FCC) dendrites with interdendritic regions with carbides. Dilution levels from 4,9 to 41,5 % leaded to hardness ranging from 225 to 283 HV_0_,_5, showing coatings dependence on intensity current level and substrate. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The emission of neutrinos within a wide energy range is predicted from very-high-energy phenomena in the Universe. Even the current or next-generation Cherenkov neutrino telescopes might be too small to detect the faint fluxes expected for cosmic neutrinos with energies exceeding the EeV scale. The acoustic detection method is a promising option to enlarge the discovery potential in this highest-energy regime. In a possible future deep-sea detector, the pressure waves produced in a neutrino interaction could be detected by a ≥100km3-sized array of acoustic sensors, even if it is sparsely instrumented with about 100 sensors/km3. This article focuses on the AMADEUS set-up of acoustic sensors, which is an integral part of the ANTARES detector. The main aim of the project is a feasibility study towards a future acoustic neutrino detector. However, the experience gained with the ANTARES-AMADEUS hybrid opto-acoustic set-up can also be transferred to future very large volume optical neutrino telescopes, especially for the position calibration of the detector structures using acoustic sensors.

AbstractAbstract
[en] Calibration sources are an indispensable tool for all detectors. In acoustic particle detection the goal of a calibration source is to mimic neutrino signatures as expected from hadronic cascades. A simple and promising method for the emulation of neutrino signals are piezo ceramics. We will present an detailed microscopic and macroscopic understanding of these piezo ceramics

AbstractAbstract
[en] EN10090 X50 steel is commonly used for engine valves to withstand severe operation conditions involving high temperature and corrosion from fuel and combustion gas. Usually, to enhance wear performance, valves undergo nitriding thermochemical treatment by salt baths. The aim of this work is to produce diffusion layers at least 20μm thick with hardness higher than 700HV by plasma surface treatment with no continuous compounds layer using nitrogen and methane based atmospheres. Samples were characterized by laser Confocal and scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and Vickers hardness. Salt bath treatment induced formation of undesirable compounds layer at the surface and a diffusion layer thicker than 40μm, with hardness arising 1280HV_0_,_0_1_0. Plasma surface treatment produced diffusion layer thicker than 40μm with no continuous compounds layer and mean hardness varying from 750 to 960HV_0_,_0_1_0. (author)
