AbstractAbstract
[en] This work presents an evaluation of the impact of the requirements of the Code of Conduct on the Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources and the ones of its associated document, the Guidance on the Import and Export of Radioactive Sources, on the Brazilian control system of the import and export of radioactive sources. An overview of the current control procedures adopted in Brazil on the import and export of material or equipment capable of producing ionizing radiation is also presented. The compatibility of the mentioned control system with the new requirements is discussed. New procedures are considered in order to implement an improved control system for the import and export of radioactive sources, which would be completely harmonized with the requirements of the Code of Conduct on the Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources. AbstractAbstract
[en] An analytical expression for the external well of the Cs2 0g-(6s+6P3/2) double-well potential curve is derived, involving asymptotic parameters fitted on the spectrum obtained from photoassociation of ultracold cesium atoms and ultracold molecule formation [Fioretti et al., Europhys. J. D 5, 389 (1999)]. The results are compared to a previous Rydberg-Klein-Rees determination from our group, and may have consequences on the determination of cesium triplet scattering length. Values for radiative lifetimes τ3/2=30.462(3) ns and τ1/2=34.88(2) ns of the 6P3/2 and 6P1/2 atomic levels, respectively, are extracted with an accuracy better than previous determinations. The method of Derevianko and Porsev [Phys. Rev. A 65, 053403 (2002)], allows the derivation of an improved value for the van der Waals coefficient of ground-state cesium molecule, C66s=6828(19) a.u

AbstractAbstract
[en] In order to provide quality control in radiotherapy practice in the hospital routine and reduce the time used for the implementation of established protocols, quality control systems have been developed by manufacturers of clinic instruments. Their use is more and more common but their performance is not always ensured by an independent certification. This study presents a performance evaluation of the QC6-Plus quality control system, developed by PTW-Freiburg, about which the available accuracy and performance information has, until now, been provided only by the manual of the equipment. The obtained results point out the limitations of the use of this equipment in the quality control routine of the hospitals as well as its possible use in the regulatory inspections performed by the Comissao Nacional de Energia Nuclear (the Brazilian regulatory body responsible for the safety and security use of the ionizing radiation) in radiotherapy facilities. The photon beams were provided by the INCA's (Instituto Nacional do Cancer, in Rio de Janeiro) Clinic Linear Accelerator - Clinac 2300C/D. The dosimetry of the beams produced by the Clinac 2300C/D was carried out by the QC6-Plus system. In order to evaluate the dosimetry of the QC6-Plus system, the beams were also measured conventionally by using an ionization chamber IC-70 Welhofer Farmer type associate with electrometer Keithley and with a phantom CNMC Co 30 cmx30 cm x 40 cm of water. The symmetry and flatness of the beams was evaluated by using both the QC6-Plus system and an ionization chamber IC-15 s3400 Welhofer associated with electrometer PTW Unidos E and with a phantom CNMC Co 40 cmx40 cmx40 cm of water. The INCA's Co-60 Theratron irradiator was also used to verify the calibration procedures proposed by the manufacturer of the QC6-Plus system. The Theratron irradiator allowed the characterization of the QC6- Plus system in terms of constancy and reproducibility. The presented results indicate that the QC6-Plus system is able to evaluate the reference clinic parameters, flatness and symmetry, in the routine of a hospital. On the other hand, the observed deviation in the dosimetry measurements, when compared with the results obtained from the conventional dosimetric method, does not allow the recommendation of the use of the QC6-Plus system for the dosimetry purpose

AbstractAbstract
[en] Since 2006, the Directorate of Nuclear Safety and Security, DRS, of National Nuclear Energy Commission, CNEN, has gone through many improvements. In 2006 CNEN signed the commitment to the recommendations of the Code of Conduct on The Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources and the Guidance on The Import and Export of Radioactive Sources. The DRS is responsible for the licensing and control of nuclear facilities, fuel cycle, waste management and the control of radioactive sources and authorizations of medical and industrial installations. In 2009 the office responsible for the control of radioactive sources and authorizations of medical and industrial installations implemented an “Electronic Management System” in which this System integrates the transport department and waste management department. The Electronic Management System is linked to the register of radioactive sources and facilities and there is an access on line to the Customs, making the control of import and export of radioactive sources robust, efficient and fast. During the period from 2006 until 2015 the most relevant regulations related to the control of radioactive sources and authorizations of medical and industrial installations were reviewed and some were elaborated and issued. These documents were in line with the Categorization of Radioactive Sources and the International Basic Safety Standards, issued in the IAEA Safety Standard Series as General Safety Requirements Part 3 (GSR Part 3). The paper describes all the steps that were adopted in order to implement these systems and the improvements on our Nuclear Regulatory Systems. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Analysis and assignment of spectra involving the lowest excited states of the heavier alkali-metal atom dimers are complicated by the strong spin-orbit coupling elements. Here we report an analysis of the Fourier-transform spectroscopy data from laser-induced fluorescence of the coupled A 1Σ+ and b 3Π states of RbCs, using the discrete variable representation. Fitted parameters are given and special effects due to strong coupling are discussed

AbstractAbstract
[en] This work aims to demonstrate the importance of the regulatory inspections carried out by Brazilian regulatory body in the area of nuclear medicine field. The main aspects observed during the inspections are presented as well as the time evolution of the non-compliances, according to their occurrence by type. The results point out the importance of continuous coercion actions to improve the radiological protection level in nuclear medicine facilities in compliance with the standards established by the national regulatory authority and international recommendations.
