AbstractAbstract
[en] The quantitative interpretation of the ascending part of a renogram requires an adequate evaluation of the non-renal activity included in the renal area. A comparison is made of two methods of quantifying the background in sup(99m)Tc-DTPA renal studies, i.e. the interpolative background subtraction (I.B.S.) method and the surface ratio (S.R.) method. It was concluded that the I.B.S. method offered no special advantage for the correction of the renal curve, compared to the S.R. method. (U.K.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Quantitative radionuclide angiocardiography (QRAC) was performed with and without deconvolution analysis (DA) in 87 children with various heart disorders. QRAC shunt quantitation was possible without DA in 70% of the cases and with DA in 95%. Among 21 patients with prolonged bolus injections, quantitation of the shunt was possible in 52% of the cases without DA an in all cases with DA. Correlation between oximetry and QRAC with DA was better than between oximetry and QRAC without DA. It is concluded that QRAC with DA is a more reliable, noninvasive means for detection and quantitation of left-to-right cardiac shunts than QRAC without DA

AbstractAbstract
[en] Right ventricular ejection fraction (RVEF) calculated from ECG-gated steady-state 81mKr angiocardiography and from 99mTc first-pass studies were compared in 30 patients using a digital, single crystal, gamma-camera. Despite the two entirely different approaches RVEF valves obtained by the two methods were comparable (r=0.97): the mean absolute difference between the two techniques was 2.5%+/-1.5% and the largest observed absolute difference was 5%. In the absence of an accepted reference method for measuring RVEF, this close correlation provides indirect validation of both techniques. The choice of method will therefore depend on several factors, including radiotracer availability, the characteristics of the gamma-camera and the protocol of clincal investigation. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] This work was undertaken to look for distribution volume-plasma clearance converting equations(s) that can be used to estimate glomerular filtration rate (GFR) in children. GFR calculated using the two-blood sample slope-intercept method was used for comparison. It was shown that the 2-hr distribution volume and the two-blood sample clearance were closely related. For all the age groups, the coefficient of correlation between these two parameters was high (range: 0.95 to 0.99) and the s.e.e. was low (range 0.76-3.86 ml/min). It was also shown that a linear equation (GFR = 2,602 V120-0,273) could be used to convert the two hour distribution volume into an accurate estimate of two-blood sample GFR whatever the age of the patient. The use of the single-sample technique for measuring GFR in children is therefore recommendable

AbstractAbstract
[en] The radionuclide right ventricular ejection fraction (RVEF) determined by means of Krypton-81m represents a simple, noninvasive, and accurate procedure to quantify the right ventricular contractility. This procedure was applied to 25 young patients with cystic fibrosis. The RVEF tended to decrease with the progression of the lung disease, as assessed by the clinical S-K score, the degree of the defects on lung scintigraphy, the PaO2, and the lung function tests. However, the decrease of RVEF in patients with marked lung function tests. However, the decrease of RVEF in patients with marked lung involvement was moderate, and terminal lung disease was sometimes associated with normal right heart contractility

AbstractAbstract
[en] sup(99m)Tc(V)-DMSA labelled either by increasing the pH together with a low concentration of Sn, or by increasing the pH only are compared in vitro and in vivo. The gel chromatographic separation shows that after incubation with blood, all the sup(99m)Tc(V)-DMSA preparations are stable and do not bind to the plasma proteins. The behavior in rats as well as in clinical studies does not demonstrate any distinctive characteristics between the different radiomolecules. It seems that the pH of the solution is an important factor which controls the formation of sup(99m)Tc(V)-DMSA. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Single kidney clearance can be obtained using the 99Tcsup(m)-DTPA complex and the scintillation camera. In order to evaluate the influence of statistical noise on the determination of the clearance, several non-noisy curves were constructed, simulating renal, background and precordial curves. Poisson noise was added to these curves and the clearance results were compared to those obtained on the original curves. It was shown that, in so far as a moderate curve smoothing was used, the statistical noise did not interfere considerably with the results of the renal clearance. (author)
