AbstractAbstract
[en] A vacuum apparatus and the working procedure are described for the preparation of hydrogen by reduction of water with uranium, which is used for the determination of the isotopic D/H ratio in the range of natural concentrations of deuterium. A 25 to 40 nm3 sample of water is taken with a microsyringe and the reduction of water is carried out by circulating the water vapours over spongy uranium at 650 degC. The hydrogen formed is bound at 8O degC to additional uranium in the form of hydride which at 600 degC sets hydrogen free quantitatively by subsequent thermal decomposition. Three ampoules are then filled with released hydrogen at 80 kPa pressure, which are used for isotopic measurements in a mass spectrometer. The apparatus and the working procedure for hydrogen preparation were checked by a series of control analyses of reference samples. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Relations are derived permitting in the application of the relative method of activity or radionuclide concentration determination, the calculation of the minimum total detection time with the required statistical accuracy (maximum permissible error) and its optimal distribution for measuring the individual components (the activity of a sample, the standard and the background). The relations include the contribution of all considered variable components to the standard deviation of the variable and also permit assessing determination accuracy obtainable in the given time limit. For rock samples measured, graphs are shown for the relative share of the detection time of the activity of the sample, standard and background in the total measurement time and for the dependence of the relative standard deviation as against the optimal value for cases when the activity of the background or of the standard is neglected. The rates of the standards and the background were considered to be constant and equal to 50,000 and 400 imp/min, respectively. (B.S.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A description is presented of the measurement and the assessment of measured values of D/H isotope ratio as is the modification of an instrument therefor. The instrument performance was tested using different water standards. Measurement reproducibility of the used mass spectrometer was better than 1 per mille. The value of deuterium content (delta D) in hydrated mineral water was determined with a total error of 2 to 5 per mille. (J.H.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Kinetic and thermodynamic data are presented for deuterium and hydrogen isotope ratio used in the study of raw materials deposit formation. Fundamental parameters (molecular weight, boiling and melting temperatures, heats of association and sublimation) are compared for H2, D2, HD and temperature variations in standard free enthalpy are shown for H2O, D2O, and HDO.
