AbstractAbstract
[en] Time-differential magnetic moment measurements on the first-excited Isup(π)=2+ states in 20Ne and 24Mg with mean lives of 1.0 and 2.1 ps, respectively are described. The lifetime of the latter state was determined simultaneously. A special detection geometry was designed to improve the experimental γ-ray anisotropy measured with finite-size detectors. For 20Ne also a time-integral measurement with charge-state separation was performed. The necessary electronics circuitry built to perform these complicated measurements and the plunger assembly with laser interferometer are also described. A magnetic moment measurement of 22Ne(21+) with tau=5.0 ps and transient field measurements at low and high recoil velocities are reported. A discussion of possible extensions of the techniques are given. (Auth.)

[en] In a novel experiment the energy flux of heater generated phonons incident on an interface between silicon and liquid helium was determined quantitatively. By measuring also the energy flux transmitted into the He II a transmission coefficient of 23% for heater temperatures between 5 K and 15 K is obtained. (Auth.)

[en] In superconducting aluminium the influence of microwave irradiation on the time delay between the start of a supercritical current pulse and the onset of the corresponding voltage response was observed. A shortening of the delay times has been measured due to the microwaves. This reflects the redistribution of the quasiparticles and the enhancement of the superconducting energy gap. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The influence of microwave irradiation on the current-voltage curves of superconducting tunnel-junctions is investigated. Besides large gap enhancements we find a considerable reduction of the tunneling current for eV below 2Δ. This reduction reflects the change in the number of quasiparticles. Just above eV = 2Δ we observe an enhancement of the pair-breaking current, which indicates the change in the distribution of quasiparticles for energies just above Δ. (orig.)
