AbstractAbstract
[en] Sixteen identical NaI(Tl) scintillation detectors optimized for low energy sources counting are connected to a high voltage supply and to the inputs of sixteen identical linear amplifiers whose outputs are connected to a central processing unit and to its peripherals. The connection considerably accelerates measurements of a large number of samples in radiosaturation analysis in human and veterinary medicine and in other examination methods using labelling with low energy gamma sources, especially with 125I. The results of measurements can be evaluated by computer. (J.B.). 2 figs

AbstractAbstract
[en] The patented connection of the spectrometer is suitable for measuring with low-resolution detectors, e.g., scintillation and silicon detectors. The connection incorporates a high voltage supply, linear amplifier, multiple discriminator, central unit and output facility. The multiple discriminator has adjustable upper and lower levels which allows to measure almost all important radionuclides in mixtures of fission or corrosion products. With the use of the multiple discriminator, at the output the peak area is directly obtained. The spectrometer is mains or battery powered so that it may be used in the laboratory or in the field. Magnetic tape memories may be used as an output device, which allows to record data for subsequent processing in battery-powered operation. The connection is suitable for measuring mixtures of fission products and for environmental monitoring. (E.S.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] NE 1600, a counter for I-125 produced by Nuclear Enterprises, Ltd., Edinburgh, was evaluated using a NRG 603 γ-counter, Tesla Liberec, Czechoslovakia, for comparison. The main advantage of NE 1600 is its high through-put which outstrips considerably that of NRG 603 and other orthodox γ-counters. It is concluded that NE 1600 is remarkably well suited for use in laboratories concerned with radioimmunoassay of I-125-labelled preparations. (authors)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The procedures of labelling different types of haptenes with radioactive iodine are described. Consideration is given to the choice of suitable antisera and 125I-radioligands in various homologous and heterologous combinations for radioimmunoassay. In addition to binding radioligand-antiserum interactions, factors are discussed that influence antibody specificity. (author)

[en] Laboratories processing 1000 or more samples a day are recommended to perform radioimmunoassays in large batches, to use iodine-125 for the majority of assays and to give preference to the following types of apparatus: a modular system for sample preparation, a high through-put counter and a minicomputer for calculations and for preparations of the perforated tape for dispatching the results by teleprinter or transmitting them into a central computer. AbstractAbstract
[en] Rabbit and bovine serum immunoglobulins were prepared by precipitation with rivanol, salting-out with ammonium sulphate, and by gel filtration. These partly purified antigens were used for immunization of two goats and one pig by intradermal administration. The dynamics of the development of precipitating antibodies were evaluated by turbidimetry. This method of evaluating the dynamics of antibody proved superior to both radial immunodiffusion using incorporated antigen and electroimmunodiffusion. The method is rapid and therefore suitable for determination of the optimum time for blood collection. (authors)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Determination of progesterone in milk is a very useful tool for the detection of insemination failures as early as three weeks after breeding, which makes possible to hasten conception in some animals. When compared with actual pregnancies, the results of progesterone determination can also provide information on the rate of embryonic mortality and, in consequence, a basis for objective evaluation of the results of any control measures in this respect. Moreover, determination of progesterone is of value is studying the oestrous cycle and in differential diagnosis of reproductive disorders. In performing the assay, preference is given to direct determination of progesterone in milk without extraction. Labelling with iodine-125 is useful in processing large batches of samples. (authors)
