AbstractAbstract
[en] The STAR Collaboration will complete the Heavy Flavor Tracker (HFT) and the Muon Telescope Detector (MTD) upgrades by 2014. STAR has also embarked on an upgrade plan to extend the capabilities for measuring jets, electron/photon and leading particles in the forward rapidity region in the coming decade. Planned detector upgrades include tracking detectors for charged particles, electro-magnetic and hadronic calorimeters and particle identification detector in the forward direction. We will present physics motivations, status of detector R and D and design considerations for the forward measurements focusing on p + p/p + A and polarized p + p collisions

AbstractAbstract
[en] Highlights: • Controllable crystallization of Ge_2Sb_2Te_5 films by multiple fs laser pulses. • Real-time reflectivity measurement and two-temperature model calculation were used. • Different crystallization processes and mechanisms at low, medium, and high fluences. - Abstract: In this study, controllable crystallization processes of as-deposited amorphous Ge_2Sb_2Te_5 phase-change memory thin films driven by multiple femtosecond laser pulses were investigated in detail. The threshold effects of pulse fluence and the number of pulses were analyzed comprehensively using real-time reflectivity measurements and two-temperature model calculations. The different optical transients indicated three kinds of crystallization processes at low, medium, and high fluences. These results may provide further insights into the ultrafast phase-transition mechanics and are useful in the design of programmable multi-level logic devices based on phase change memory materials

AbstractAbstract
[en] In order to further reduce the sulfur content in liquid hydrocarbon fuels, a desulfurization process by adsorption for removing dimethyl sulfide (DMS) and propylmercaptan (PM) was investigated. Bentonite adsorbents modified by CuCl2 for the desulfurization of model oil was investigated. The results indicated that the modified bentonite adsorbents were effective for adsorption of DMS and PM. The bentonite adsorbents were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and thermal analysis (TGA). The acidity was measured by FT-IR spectroscopy. Several factors that influence the desulfurization capability, including loading and calcination temperature, were studied. The maximum sulfur adsorption capacity was obtained at a Cu(II) loading of 15 wt %, and the optimum calcination temperature was 150 .deg. C. Spectral shifts of the v(C-S) and v(Cu-S) vibrations of the complex compound obtained by the reaction of CuCl2 and DMS were measured with the Raman spectrum. On the basis of complex adsorption reaction and hybrid orbital theory, the adsorption on modified bentonite occurred via multilayer intermolecular forces and S-M (σ) bonds

AbstractAbstract
[en] A coupling interface between Monte Carlo neutron transport code JMCT2.2 and commercial CFD code FLUENT was developed by C++ language. The one-by-one mapping strategy that one cell in the MCNP model logically corresponded to the computational domain in the FLUENT model was used in this coupling method to realize simple partition of the physical model and refinement of partition of CFD mesh. The calculated results of a PWR single cell model and a PWR 3 × 3 fuel model were compared between this program and the MCNP-FLUENT program to validate its accuracy. The results demonstrate that this coupling method between JMCT code and FLUENT code is reasonable and it can accurately calculate the feedback parameters. (authors)

[en] Alanine/EPR dosimetry is a new method used for measuring high-level radiation dose. The standard size of alanine dosimetry is φ1.4 x 8 mm, but in some cases it needs small size alanine dosimetry for more accurate measuring results. This article introduces the initial research and the result analysis of the measurement of the radiation field by using the small size alanine dosimetry

AbstractAbstract
[en] Dynamics of the baryon number transport determine the mid-rapidity characteristics in nucleus-nucleus collisions: considerable net baryon densities at the AGS and SPS, and small but finite at RHIC. Fragmentations of incident baryons are used to describe the baryon number transport in nuclear collisions. We report results of leading proton, neutron and Lambda measurement in p+A collisions from E941 at the AGS. We discuss the impact of fragmentation schemes on baryon number transport and hyperon production in nuclear collisions. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Based on the technology maturity, four typical nuclear fuel cycle options, namely, OTC, TTC, FRC and HRC, were selected for analysis. The sustainability of different fuel cycle options was studied using the balanced mass flow model, and the fuel cost and spent fuel disposal cost of different options were evaluated based on levelized cost of electricity calculation method. The results show that closed fuel cycle can greatly reduce the production of nuclear waste. And the FRC option with fuel self-supporting as well as the HRC option can use depleted uranium without consuming natural uranium. Besides, the HRC option is the most economical while the TTC option is the worst, considering only fuel cost and spent fuel disposal cost. (authors)

[en] The irradiation damage is an important characteristic of plastic optical fiber. While irradiation, the transmission ration of optical fiber and the relative output of the fluorescence decrease obviously. Irradiation damage can recover gradually by itself. AbstractAbstract
[en] We will present a review of selected results on strange baryon production from nucleus-nucleus collisions at the AGS, SPS and RHIC. From the AGS and SPS heavy ion physics programme several intriguing aspects: centrality dependence of strangeness production, anti-hyperon yield, hyperon production enhancement and baryon number transport will be highlighted. Our discussion on RHIC results will focus on experimental probes of partonic degrees of freedom. Measurements of the elliptic flow v2 and the nuclear modification factor and their distinctive particle dependence are presented as a function of transverse momentum
