AbstractAbstract
[en] High momentum muons and electrons are distinguishable from other charged particles in a colliding hadronic beam experiment. All the heavy quarks decay into leptons with significant branching fractions. It is for these reasons leptons are the source of information in heavy quark production at hadron colliders. Therefore, obtaining the heavy quark cross section requires the measurement of the lepton cross section. This thesis describes a measurement of the cross section of central muons at the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The cross sections are 3.90 ± .27 ± .51 nb for muon transverse momentum between 12 and 17 GeV/c; 52 ± .13 ± .08 nb for pt between 17 and 22 GeV/c; and less than .17 nb for pt between 22 and 27 GeV/c at the 95% confidence level

AbstractAbstract
[en] This paper reports on the most recent results from the Collider Detector Facility (CDF) from 110 pb-1 of data taken at the Fermilab Tevatron from 1992 to 1995. Improved measurements of B meson spectroscopy, lifetimes, and searches for new particle states are presented. Evidence for the effectiveness of same side tagging techniques in the context of mixing measurements is shown with applicability for CP violation studies in Run-II explained. The planned upgrades of importance to b physics for Run-II are briefly detailed with an emphasis on the expected physics reach in Run-II by CDF

AbstractAbstract
[en] Recent results on b quark and B meson production cross sections have been obtained at √s = 1.8 TeV proton-antiproton collisions using the Collider Detector Facility (CDF) at Fermilab, using the exclusive decay modes B± →J/Ψ K± and B0 → J/Ψ K*. Another measurement made using data from the 1988--89 run on the correlated b + bar b cross section is also presented

AbstractAbstract
[en] The LHC luminosity upgrade, known as the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC), will require the replacement of the existing silicon strip tracker and the transistion radiation tracker. Although a baseline design for this tracker exists the ATLAS collaboration and other non-ATLAS groups are exploring the feasibility of using CMOS Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (MAPS) which would be arranged in a strip-like fashion and would take advantage of the service and support structure already being developed for the upgrade. Two test devices made with the AMS H35 process (a High voltage or HV CMOS process) have been subjected to various radiation environments and have performed well. The results of these tests are presented in this paper

AbstractAbstract
[en] We present a measurement of the inclusive jet cross section in bar pp collisions at √s =1.8 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron using the Collider Detector at Fermilab. Good agreement is seen with the predictions of recent next-to-leading-order [O(αs3)] QCD predictions. The dependence of the cross section on clustering cone size is reported for the first time. An improved limit on Λc, a term characterizing possible quark substructure, is set at 1.4 TeV (95% C.L.)

[en] We report a measurement of the proton-antiproton total cross section σT at c.m.s. energies √s =546 and 1800 GeV. Using the luminosity-independent method, we find σT=61.26±0.93 mb at √s =546 GeV and 80.03±2.24 mb at √s =1800 GeV. In this energy range, the ratio σel/σT increases from 0.210±0.002 to 0.246±0.004
