AbstractAbstract
[en] Two factors of coating process of 100% polyester fabric with irradiated natural latex which content 10 phr (part hundred ratio of rubber) of isocianate i.e. time curing of 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 minutes and total number of coating 1, 2, 3 times have been carried out. The importance properties of raining coat i.e. percentage of water absorption, hydrostatic pressure and pull strength have been evaluated. The results showed that by increasing of curing time and number of coating the hydrostatic and pull strength of polyster coated fablic increases, and the percentage of water absorption decrease. The polyster fabric coated by irradiated natural with the film thickness of 40 micron (two times coating), and the curing time of 2.5 minutes at 150 Celcius centigrade, can produce raining coat fabric as well as required. AbstractAbstract
[en] Research activities in the field of radiation polymerization have been carried out in Indonesia since 1970. These activities are radiation vulcanization of natural rubber latex, improvement of polypropylene and polyester fibers, modification of natural rubber for obtaining special rubber, preparation of wood plastic composite and emulsion polymerization. The basic idea for choosing these activities was based on the economical background emerged in this country. In the present moment, some of these activities have reached the developmental stage, such as radiation vulcanization of natural rubber latex, improvement of polypropylene and polyester fibers and production of wood plastic composite. Irradiated latex showed longer storage life and furthermore it can be used directly for the preparation of dipped goods. Modified polypropylene and polyester fibers showed higher melting point, better dyeability and moisture regain compared to the unirradiated ones. Further laboratory experiments in this field are still in progress. Radiation facilities available in this country which support these present activities are one Gamma Cell made in Canada with an activity of about 2,000 Ci and Panoramic Batch Gamma Irradiator made in India with an activity of about 70,000 Ci in the present moment. AbstractAbstract
[en] Cotton and cellulose rayon fabrics were grafted with acrylic acid, acrylonitrile, and vinyl pyrrolidone monomers. The graft copolymerization was carried out by pre-irradiation technique using Co-60 gamma rays and electron accelerator. The influence of the irradiation dose, monomer concentration, temperature, and grafting time was studied. Various mechanical properties such as dimensional stability, crease recovery angle, tensile strength, and abrasion resistence were evaluated. It was concluded, that graft copolymerization of acrylic acid, acrylonitrile, and vinyl pyrrolidone into cellulose could improve the dimensional stability and crease recovery angle of the fabric, while its tensile strength and its abrasion decreased with the increase of irradiation dose. Grafting temperature of 60-70 deg C, reaction time of 5-40 minutes, and irradiation dose of 0.50-0.75 Mrad, were found to be the optimal conditions for the graft copolymerization process. (author)
