AbstractAbstract
[en] The main areas are presented of cooperation between the Skoda Plzen Concern and the State Machinery Design Research Institute in Prague-Bechovice. This is mainly the development of steam turbines, from 50 MW turbines to the present 1000 MW saturated steam turbines designed for nuclear power plants. Main attention is centred on conditions of the boiling crisis in the steam turbine circuit, and its consequences. This study is served by the experimental equipment of the institute and its computer. The cooperation of the two institutions in the field of testing and diagnostic equipment is centred on measuring natural oscillations of turbine blades, the diagnostics of vibrations of steam turbines, the measurement of the humidity of saturated steam, optical measurements of the parameters of saturated steam, ultrasound diagnostics and the measurement of turbine blade deformation caused by hydraulic effects. AbstractAbstract
[en] To protect the personnel handling radioactive substances in nuclear installations, especially shielding and suitable equipment, machines or systems for remote handling are used nowadays. The state of the art reached in remote handling in the Federal Republic of Germany is described on the basis of remote handling machines for nuclear power plants, remote handling systems in waste management plants and nuclear fusion installations, and of universal remote handling equipment. AbstractAbstract
[en] Physical processes in thin ZnS:Mn films and their relation to the formation of dynamical patterns in the electroluminescence of AC driven films are investigated. The technique of photo-depolarization-spectroscopy is used to investigate defect states in these films and it is shown that specific features in the spectra correlate with the observed self-organized patterns. Furthermore, the time dependence of the dissipative current is measured at the same samples and compared with current waveforms obtained from numerical simulations of a drift-diffusion model. The results are used to discuss the origin of the self-organized processes in ZnS:Mn-films

AbstractAbstract
[en] In this prospective study, mandibular reconstruction using titanium plates was evaluated in 31 patients treated between July 1988 and January 1990. Sixteen patients had prior surgery; 13 had prior radiotherapy. In 11 patients, prior radiation and surgery had failed. Sixteen patients received postoperative radiotherapy either in standard or accelerated fractions. Twelve patients had complications of either intraoral (8), extraoral (5), or combined (1) plate exposure or fistula formation (2). Factors significantly related to complications were poor nutrition, accelerated radiation, and recurrence. Sixty-one percent of all patients healed uneventfully. When patients with complications secondary to recurrence who subsequently died were excluded, the success rate was 73%. Only one patient had an unacceptable result that produced a cosmetic and functional deformity despite secondary repair

AbstractAbstract
[en] On the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of Louis de Broglie's thesis, the concept of phase waves is re-examined. After a brief historical survey a modern conceptual presentation of these waves is described via phase invariance. In this respect de Broglie's hypothesis appears not to be self-consistent. Phase waves in galilean relativity are briefly discussed. Inverse phase waves in two-dimensional special relativity are presented, and some remarks are added concerning the development of concepts and theories. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The Salt Repository Project Panel on the Experimental Design for the Uniform Corrosion of Low-Carbon Steel was convened to develop a well-documented consensus test matrix. A multidisciplinary panel of seven scientists and engineers have recommended a full factorial matrix of 250 tests with 4 experimental factors: time, temperature, oxygen fugacity, and magnesium concentration. The panel also recommended 31 supplementary tests to study the effects of other factors. Because of the large number of tests involved, the panel recommended a stepwise implementation starting with 78 tests at various combinations of time, temperature, magnesium concentration, and oxygen fugacity. When the test results become available, they should be analyzed to determine future test needs
