AbstractAbstract
[en] SPring-8 is a third-generation synchrotron radiation source operating in the soft and hard X-ray region. It consists of an injector linac of 1 GeV, a booster synchrotron of 8 GeV and a storage ring with a natural emittance of 5.9 nm rad. The storage ring can accommodate 61 beamlines in total, and 26 of them are under construction. The project has been carried out jointly by JAERI and RIKEN and construction of the facility started in 1991. Commissioning of the injector linac was started in August 1996 and an 8 GeV electron beam was injected into the storage ring in March 1997. The first synchrotron radiation from a bending magnet was observed at the front end of the beamline on 25 March and radiation from an undulator was observed on 23 April. On-beam testing of seven beamlines, four of them from in-vacuum undulators and three from bending magnets, started in July. The maximum stored current is currently fixed at 20 mA and the lifetime at maximum current is longer than 20 h. The dedication is scheduled for October 1997

AbstractAbstract
[en] SPring-8 is the third generation synchrotron radiation X-ray source facility which is under construction in Japan. The light source ring stores a low emittance (var-epsilon n = 7 nm·rad) electron beams and is optimized for the insertion devices to get high brilliance from undulators and high flux from wigglers in the X-ray region. This paper describes the general description and the present status of SPring-8 storage ring

AbstractAbstract
[en] Present status of the RIKEN linear accelerator-cyclotron system is reported. The first injector is a variable-frequency linear accelerator which was completed in 1980. Construction of a separated sector cyclotron is in progress. Fabrication of four sector magnets was already finished and they are under installation at the Institute. Design of remaining parts of the SSC is almost finished and is outlined in this report

AbstractAbstract
[en] The systematics in the reactions induced by carbon and nitrogen ions in the 100-MeV region are discussed mainly on the basis of experimental data. A study is made of how the energy spectra of light reaction fragments and their production cross sections depend on the bombarding energy, target mass, emitted angle, etc

AbstractAbstract
[en] A separated sector cyclotron is being constructed as the principal accelerator for the heavy-ion research facility at RIKEN. Assembling of the cyclotron, the beam transport line from the injector, and one beam line to the experimental hall has been completed. Running test of the evacuation system and full power tests of magnets, injection and extraction elements, and the radio-frequency system are under way. Construction status and some results of measurements are reported. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The collaborative research works using a 160 cm cyclotron were started in 1967 at the Institute of Physical and Chemical Research. The main facilities for research works are the 160 cm cyclotron, a variable frequency linear accelerator (RILAC) and an electrostatic accelerator (TANDETRON) of 1 MV. During the last one year, these facilities were operated in good condition. A small computer was introduced to aid the operation of the cyclotron. With the RILAC, the ions of both gaseous and solid materials were accelerated in the frequency range from 17 to 30 MHz. The test was successful at 45 MHz. Most of the research works were carried out with heavy ions. In the field of nuclear physics, a neutron multiplicity filter, a helium jet transport system and a superconducting solenoid were developed. Atomic Processes Laboratory was organized in April, 1983. In this report, the operation of the accelerators and the research activities in the fields of nuclear physics, atomic and solid state physics, radiochemistry and nuclear chemistry, radiation chemistry and radiation biology and instrumentation, the development of the RIKEN SSC (separated sector cyclotron), radiation monitoring and other activities such as publications and seminars are described. AbstractAbstract
[en] An ECR ion source for an AVF-Ring Cyclotron complex is now under construction at RIKEN. The source will be used to produce highly-charged relatively light heavy ions (up to Ar). The first beam is scheduled in April 1988. Through further one-year development, the beam from this source will be axially injected into the AVF cyclotron. The design of the ion source and the beam injection line is described. (author)
