AbstractAbstract
[en] Reports dealing with radionuclide assessment of the lung epithelium permeability (LEP) and its clinical and experimental application are reviewed. The method consists in recording the transfer of inhaled radiopharmaceutical, most often 99mTc-DTPA, from the airways into the blood. The rate of pulmonary clearance (RPC) of 99mTc-DTPA is a sensitive indicator of inflammation or injury involving pulmonary and alveolar interstitium. Evaluation of 99mTc-DTPA RPC will be useful in the differential diagnosis of the initial forms of interstitial diseases or pulmonary edema. The advantages of investigating the respiratory clearance of 99mTc-DTPA are as follows: it is noninvasive, involves a relatively low radiation loading, is simple, and the radiopharmaceutical is easily evailable. The status of the parenchyma and regional ventilation of the lungs can be evaluated during a single diagnostic procedure

Original Title
