[en] The paper deals with a detailed study on the dependence of the peak value of elastically reflected electrons (ERE) on the energy of primary electrons in the energy range corresponding to the energies of Auger-transitions in niobium and oxygen. Experimentally observed extremes of the dependence of the ERE peak value on the energy of primary electrons are shown to coincide, to the accuracy of +-1 eV by the energy scale, with the position of Auger-peaks related to the Auger-transitions in atoms of niobium (M5N3V) and oxygen (KL1L23)

[en] The non-differentiated electron Auger-spectrum of a compact degassed sample is obtained. The intensity of the Auger-transitions, connected with the ionization of the M5 level of a Zr atom and with participation of valent electrons is less than for transitions without participation of valent electrons. The carbon Auger-peak for ZrC is of a specific toothed form. Evaluated is the form of the carbon Auger-peak taking the histogram of the occupied state density as the basis. The position of maxima on the energy scale and correlation of their intensities for the carbon Auger-peak can be explained by the peculiarities of the density curve of occupied states in ZrC. It is shown with +-5% accuracy that after heating in vacuum during 8 hours at 2300 K the ZrC surface has the stoichiometric composition

[en] A simple method of increasing the sensitivity of the method of electron Auger-spectroscopy characterized by the selection of optimal geometrical conditions of the experiment, namely, a bunch of initial electrons falls on the targets at an angle close to sliding, while the recording of auger electrons is carried out in the normal direction to target surface, is suggested. It is shown that the use of the geographical factor greatly increases the signal/background ratio and permits to record nondifferented auger-spectra with sufficiently high auger-peaks. The vivid nature of such spectra makes it easy to analyze experimental data, lowers the possibility of errors and makes the method of electron auger-spectroscopy accessible for a wide range of scientists
