AbstractAbstract
[en] The physical start-up of the negative hydrogen ion injector was conducted in December, 1986, and a H- ion beam with 750 keV energy, 20 mA pulsed current, 1 Hz pulse repetition frequency was produced. The accelerating tube has two accelerating gaps with electric potential of 250 and 500 kV, respectively. The negative ion source of surface-plasma type operated without cesium supply. The six-channel power supply of the ion source was controlled via fibre-optical communication lines by digital setting. Accelerating voltage with 750 kV pulse amplitude and 80 μs duration was generated by a pulse transformer with a transformation coefficient of 43. The accelerating tube was trained gap by gap. An accelerating beam does not decrease high-voltage strength of the accelerating tube

[en] A layout of the negative-polarity high-voltage pulse generator based on pulse transformer, modulator with the forming line, device for pulse leading and trailing edge formation and diode-condenser limiter at the pulse transformer output is developed. The generator differs from the earlier known ones in a possibility of back-discharge energy recuperation and decreased voltage on thyratrons of the device for pulse leading and trailing edge formation which allows one to eliminate repeated thyratron operations. To reduce pulsations of the output voltage and overvoltages in the pulse transformer an additional inductive-capacitive cell intended for pulse transformer coordination with the forming line and with the device for the pulse edge formation is installed at its input. Investigations into the operating modes of the generator and its elements at 10 Hz pulse frequency and 750 kV voltage are conducted which allows one to select the generator element parameters for operation at 100 Hz frequency. 4 refs.; 5 figs

[en] A system of remote control of negative ions source for LINAC INR RAS designed, constructed and put into operation. Galvanic isolation and spatial separation of elements that are at potential 400 kV in the power rack of the ion source and the host computer are carried out by means of fiber-optic extender USB-interface from firms Icron. A set of multifunctional units from National Instruments allows to monitor the oscilloscope signal with up to 50 Ms/s and to control the ions source power settings

AbstractAbstract
[en] Expected application of H- beams for proton therapy leads to serious requirements on the beam stability and emittance at linac entrance. Surface-plasma source with Penning geometry discharge chamber is used at H- injector of INR Linac. In the most stable operation mode of H- injector source the beam intensity at injector exit is about 10 mA. This is quite satisfactory for proton therapy requirements. H- beam is injected into the transportation channel with the energy of 400 keV. The previous measurements of H- beam emittance were carried out for maximum 50-80 mA beam intensity and for up to 20 keV beam energy so it is important to measure the emittance for operation mode with the most stable beam parameters and 400 keV beam energy. H- beam emittance was measured in beam transportation channel. The results of measurements are discussed.
