[en] Doses to the skin in patients undergoing fluoroscopic examinations of the gastrointestinal tract were measured. Barium swallow (BS), barium meal (BM) and double contrast barium enema (DCBE) examinations were assessed. Two procedures for calibration of the thermoluminescence dosemeters (TLD) used are discussed, free-in-air and with scattering tissue-equivalent medium in the diagnostic range of energies. The use of equipment with and without image intensifier (II-TV), which still operates in Brazil, were used for carrying out examinations. The high dose values which resulted from some procedures using fluorescent screen (without II-TV) make the use of this type of machine unacceptable. (author)

[en] The reunion of eight cases of double breast tumors that occurred in a period of six years in the Instituto Nacional de Cancer, in Rio de Janeiro, served to the application of the classification criteria and diagnostic differentiation presented in this work, which intends to offer an evaluation criterion that allows the early detection and treatment of this type of pathology. [en] The authors report one case of transitional cells type renal carcinoma, in one male patient, white, 53-year-old, farm worker, with a history of fever and macroscopic hematuria, since two years ago. The first intravenous pylography (1987) demonstrated retarded excretion in the right kidney, with a cavitation localized in middle calix, with progressive accumulation of contrast. The second urography demonstrated exclusion of the same kidney. The computerized tomography was the fundamental examination for the diagnosis. (author)

[en] After a study of all cases of masculine breast cancer registered at the INCa from 1983 to 1989, the author present the most usual clinical, radiological and histopathological findings. The ductal infiltrating type of carcinoma was predominant; there were also six cases of secondary implant and two patients who died. The value of this article lies on the opportunity of presenting 11 cases of this pathology, which represent only 0,2% of malignant tumors in men, and to describe its manifestations and call the attention of radiologists for this entity. [en] The project aims the implantation of a management program, for the maintenance of the conventional X-ray equipment at HUCFF. It has been implemented through the training of the electronic technicians who work at the Hospital. Essential courses were organized such as: Basics of Radioprotection, Radiographs Techniques, and Maintenance of equipment of X-Rays. Equipment: a library with the schemes of the equipment is being assembled in collaboration with UNICAMP. In order to manage the process, a software was created using the tools of the total quality for control of the maintenance. Preliminary tests: the equipment and their working conditions were evaluated, as well as the level of the employees' satisfaction with their use. The creation of a new routine for maintenance seeks to assist the demands of the new legislation in Brazil 5, and also reduce the costs to improve the quality of the images in the Radiodiagnostic Service.
