AbstractAbstract
[en] A phase shift analysis of 3He + 4He elastic scattering data in the energy region 12.53 to 44.50 MeV (c.m.) is reported. The real parts of the phase shift solutions are compared with resonating group solutions, as are the total reaction cross section results. Elasticity parameters are also compared. The extracted real phases agree reasonably well; however, the imaginary phases are different enough to cause some disagreements in the total reaction cross section. 4 figures

AbstractAbstract
[en] The total reaction cross section σ/sub R/ for 3He+ 3He has been obtained at laboratory bombarding energies of 17.9, 21.7, and 24.0 MeV by measuring the individual cross sections for production of protons, deuterons, tritons, 3He, and α particles. The accuracy of the results is greatly improved by taking advantage of a novel method which depends on the symmetry about 900 in the center-of-mass system of the reaction cross sections for identical particles in the incoming channel. Use of this method reduces the range of energy and angle which must be measured for the continuous spectra of particles emitted in these multibody final states. In order of increasing energy, the values of σ/sub R/ obtained in this experiment are 156.7 +- 3.8, 250 +- 14, and 296 +- 12 mb. Individual cross sections contributing to σ/sub R/ were also extracted. Implications of the measurements for resonating group calculations of 3He+ 3He scattering are examined

AbstractAbstract
[en] A study has been made of the proton and α-particle yields from the 28-MeV (lab) bombardment of 4He by 3He. From these measurements a total reaction cross section sigma/sub R/ of 433 +- 10 mb was deduced. A reaction-model analysis of the α-particle continuum revealed a significant contribution from the sequential reaction 3He + 4He → 6Li(2.18) + p → α + d + p in which the breakup of the excited 6Li nucleus is nearly isotropic in its rest system. A phase-shift study was performed for 3He + 4He elastic scattering at this energy using our sigma/sub R/ value as a constraint. A pronounced odd-even dependence of the real parts of the phase shifts on the orbital angular momentum was found. The results of this work are compared with other experiments, optical-model and phase-shift analyses, and resonating-group calculations

AbstractAbstract
[en] We have measured the shape of the p+p cross section at five energies from 6--10 MeV (lab) using solid targets. Our results resolve discrepancies in values of the shape-sensitive central p-wave parameter Δ/sub c/ obtained from the gas-target data of other groups. We agree particulary well with data which had suggested difficulties in reconciling both high- and low-energy data with one-boson-exchange models of the nucleon-nucleon interaction
