AbstractAbstract
[en] The 35th Physics Days of the Finnish Physical Society will have the traditional structure with plenary lectures, short contributions of young researchers, poster sessions, and social events. The number of members of the society has exceeded 1000 and nearly half of them, more than 400, are expected to participate the Physics Days. The Finnish physicists and the Society can be proud of keeping up this tradition. The annual meeting of the Finnish Physical Society will take place during the Physics Days. I wish all the members of the Finnish Physical Society to attend the meeting and continue the discussions more informally at the conference dinner following the annual meeting. The fifth Magnus Ehrnrooth Price for Physics will be given during the opening ceremony of the Physics Days. Also the winners of the SOLIS competition for high school students will be announced. Traditionally, the Days will end by giving prices for the best poster and the best talk. The 35th Physics Days are held in the new congress center Jyvaeskylae Paviljonki and arranged by the University of Jyvaeskylae. The proceedings includes all the abstracts of the presentations given during the 35th Physics Days

AbstractAbstract
[en] We have measured several Q values at JYFLTRAP for superallowed β decays that contribute to testing the Standard Model and candidate nuclei that one could use for the search of neutrinoless double-β decay. These results play important roles in the research of fundamental physics that have scopes beyond Standard Model.

AbstractAbstract
[en] As a consequence of the recent establishment of a deep third minimum in the potential energy surface of actinide isotopes the existence of short-lived fission isomers in light actinides is predicted. A search was started in 234U using a geometrical projection method and nuclear track detectors. Excitation functions were measured, based on the known 3.8 ns fission isomer in 240Pu as reference. Preliminary results indicate the existence of a new isomer in 234U (t1/2 ∼ 87(17) ps), however a confirmation with an optimized target technology is in progress

AbstractAbstract
[en] Spectroscopic studies of super- and hyperdeformed actinide nuclei offer the possibility to gain insight into the multiple-humped fission barrier landscape. With the identification of deep third minima in 234U and 236U the systematics of fission isomers in light actinides was revisited, especially searching for isomers in light uranium isotopes with half-lives in the pico-second range. Using the recoil-shadow projection method and solid state nuclear track detectors, an experimental search for their observation has been started. This well-established detection technique nowadays benefits from an efficient analysis technology based on a PC-controlled auto-focus microscope and a CCD camera together with pattern recognition software. The flatness and the definition of the shadow edge of the target is the critical point of this method: Due to the energy loss of the beam the target carrier foil (1μm Ni) may develop thermal distortions in the μm range, leading to misinterpretations of isomeric fission fragments. Therefore the flatness of the target foil is continuously monitored via a capacitance measurement. First results applying this method to the search of a fission isomer in 234U via the 232Th(α,2n) reaction are presented.

[en] A brief overview of the global DGLAP analyses of the nuclear parton distribution functions is given. Although all the current global nPDF sets describe RF2A(x,Q2) well in the large-x region where the data exist, variations between their parton distributions can be substantial

AbstractAbstract
[en] The MLL-IonCatcher is a new setup for the thermalization of fusion-evaporation reaction products in highly pure helium with subsequent extraction of the stopped, singly charged ions. The setup consists of a buffer-gas stopping cell and a radio frequency quadrupole (RFQ)-based extraction system and is placed at the Tandem accelerator facility of the MLL in Garching. Test experiments were performed using the α emitter 152Er with total kinetic energies of around 180 keV/u, produced via the reaction 121Sb(35Cl,4n). During the on-line measurements the number of ions entering the stopping chamber through the entrance window was determined via the detection of their specific α-decay energy. After being thermalized in the helium buffer gas at 40-140 mbar the ions were guided by a combination of electric rf and dc fields towards the extraction nozzle where the ion transport was taken over by the gas flow. Subsequent to the extraction by a supersonic gas jet the ions were separated from the buffer gas and guided by the extraction RFQ towards a Si detector, where the specific α-decay energy was detected. Depending on the electric field strength and the pressure of the buffer gas an overall efficiency including stopping and extraction between 10% and 16% has been achieved

AbstractAbstract
[en] Beta decay of a refractory isotope 118Rh produced in symmetric fission and mass separated by the ion guide technique has been applied for the study of low-lying excited states of 118Pd. The yrast band in 118Pd has been observed up to a 6+ state and the lowest states of the asymmetric γ-band have been identified. The measured half-life of 118Rh is (300±60)ms. The systematics of the excited states in neutron-rich Pd-isotopes implies the saturation towards an O(6) symmetry at N=70. (orig.)
