AbstractAbstract
[en] Brain scintigraphy, the choice of radiopharmaceuticals for it, the sensitivity of the method, etc., are discussed. The detecting power of brain scintigraphy is high for tumors of the hemispheres but it is considerably poorer for basal supratentorial tumors. Tumors of fossa cranii posterior are not reliably detected by scintigraphy either. The method is also not very well suited to the diagnosis of epidural and acute subdural hematomas. It is, on the other hand, convenient in the diagnosis of recurrence of brain infarctions (about 75% patients give a positive image). Static planar brain scintigraphy continues to hold a prominent position in noninvasive diagnosis of intracranial focal processes. Scintigraphy, however, is inferior to transmission computerized tomography (CT) as far as its sensitivity is concerned. For brain tumors, the detecting power of CT is 99% as against the 91% of planar brain scintigraphy. Emission computed tomography, positron emission tomography, and radionuclide angiography are also dealt with. The methods of scintigraphy of liquor paths are described, viz. radionuclide cisternography and radionuclide perimyelography, which are applied to the examination of liquor dynamics in the cerebral and spinal parts, respectively. AbstractAbstract
[en] An analysis is presented of the results of the examination of 220 patients with autonomous adenoma of the thyroid gland. In these patients the examinations included radioiodine uptake test, radioimmunologic determination of the total triiodothyronine and thyroxine, the index of free thyroxine and, in 207 patients, also the TRH-TSH test. Special attention was paid to scintigraphy, which is the fundamental method used in the diagnosis of this disease. Own methodical approach is described consisting in the use of a scintigraphic camera together with computerized evaluation equipment which yields comparable scintigrams before and after stimulation by TSH, or, respectively, after suppression with triiodothyronine. The classification of autonomous adenomas of the thyroid gland in compensated and decompensated adenomas is dealt with in detail. It was found that the radioiodine uptake test is of no use for this purpose as the diagnostic accuracy of serum concentrations of thyroid hormones is not sufficient. The TRH-TSH test appears to be most reliable, which is also documented by the results obtained after surgical removal or radioiodine treatment of adenomas. The problems concerning the best form of treatment of autonomous adenomas of the thyroid gland are also discussed. With regard to the age distribution found in the group studied and to the growing incidence of multiple and decompensated autonomous adenomas in higher age, treatment with radioiodine is indicated in the majority of patients. AbstractAbstract
[en] A description is given of the design and use of a multipurpose dynamic phantom of cardiac activity developed as one of the results of research project No. 30-02-03 of the Ministry of Health ''Computer processing of dynamic scintigraphic investigations''. The phantom can be used for radionuclide ventriculography where it serves as a model of the pulsations of the ventricle as well as for bolus angiocardiography where it serves as a model for the pumping of the blood by the heart. All parameters such as the ejection fraction, stroke volume, residual volume, ejection and filling rates, heart rate, cardiac output, background, the phase of emission of synchronizing impulses, etc. can continuously be altered within a wide range. As to its design the phantom is relatively simple but thanks to its original concept it makes possible a very comprehensive analysis and the verification of radionuclide cardiological methods and their accurate calibration.
