[en] Problems of radiation embrittlement of nuclear reactor vessels and justification of the possibility of NPP service time increase are considered. Results of studying the states of vessels of ARDENNES (CHOOZ-A) (France) and LOVIISA (Finland) reactors are analysed in details. At LOVIISA NPP the WWR-440 reactors, which vessels are made of 15Kh2MFA ferritic steel are set up. The carried out investigations give a reliable information on the effect of different factors on radiation ebrittlement of the WWER-440 reactor vessels. The safety limits are determined, it is stated that further operation of the LOVIISA reactors may be carried out without annealing the metal of the vessels as it is planned at some other NPPs

Environmental contamination connected with radioactive wastes from the Rocky Flats plant, Savannah River plant, Hanford Reservation, Pantex plant is considered. Expenditures for decontamination of the territories, where nuclear weapon production plants are located, as well as for payment of compensations are discussed.
