AbstractAbstract
[en] This book analyzes the physical and chemical mechanisms involved in the damaging of inorganic materials. It deals also with the modeling of these phenomena, in order to estimate the remaining potentialities of the materials, and with the present day limitations of this multi-scale approach. Two examples are analyzed in detail: the aging of nuclear glasses used for the vitrification of radioactive wastes and the mechanical wear of metals in the case of rolling friction. (J.S.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] This book deals with a series of new results obtained thanks to the use of ultra-short laser pulses. This branch of physics has made incredible progresses during the last 25 years. Ultra-short laser pulses offer the opportunity to explore the domain of ultra-high energies and of ultra-short duration events. Applications are various, from controlled nuclear fusion to eye surgery and to more familiar industrial applications such as electronics. (J.S.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Zr 702 is selected for fabrication of metal equipment used in La Hague reprocessing plant because of excellent corrosion resistance in nitric acid. A characterization program of materials and weldings concerning tensile properties, fatigue, creep and fracture properties is developed at the CEA for mechanical behavior of equipment during lifetime forecasted (about 30 years). Results obtained up to now concern the temperature range 20-2000C and hot rolled sheets of zirconium-alpha. However few results have been obtained on zirconium-beta and welded joints. As far as possible the comparison longitudinal or transversal direction is made

AbstractAbstract
[en] This conference is composed of 30 papers (all in the INIS scope), grouped in 4 sessions and a poster session, which main themes are: study of the microstructure degradations in zirconium alpha and beta treated, and on the dynamic ageing; influence of texture on mechanical properties and prediction of texture after cold rolling and other thermomechanical treatments; development of behaviour models, mainly phenomenological and macroscopic models, but also crystallographic ones that may be used for cyclic loading cases; fracture mechanisms, under monotonic and cyclic loading, fatigue-creep interaction, and fracture of welded structures; mechanical properties and corrosion issues concerning zirconium 702, zircaloy-4 and titanium alloys. AbstractAbstract
[en] In fast reactors the mixture of sodium at different temperatures is a source of thermal striping that can produce crack growth on metallic structure in the neighborhood. The aim of this study is the determination of conditions for crack formation at the surface of stainless steel components by heat. Testing equipment reproducing superficial thermal fatigue was realized and first tests concerning metallographic observations and microfractography are presented. Crack initiation is constituted by a great number of microcracks below 50 microns and their orientation are dependent of main plastic deformations. During crack propagation longer cracks (up to 3 mm) form a tridimensional network, characteristics are the same for mechanical and thermal fatigue

AbstractAbstract
[en] In 1990, nuclear generating stations provided three quarters of France's electricity. With more than 50 operating reactors, France has one of the largest nuclear power programs in the world. The main reasons for this success have been the high level of standardization, the priority given to safety and environmental protection, and an efficient industrial organization
