AbstractAbstract
[en] Ratios of coincidence counting rates of annihilation gammas at 0 and 10 milliradians for 13 atomic concentrations from 0 to 50% of thallium in liquid mercury were measured. A sharp discontinuity at about 5% of thallium indicates an abrupt change of cluster size and concentration, which may be related to the peaking of electric thermopower of the alloy. (Auth.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Ratios of coincidence counting rates of annihilation gammas at 0 and 10 mrad were measured for 16 atomic percentages of indium in liquid mercury. Theory of trapping of positrons at solute atoms and solute-vacancy complexes is applied. Complete angular correlation measurements for 14.3, 25, 35, and 50 atomic percentages of indium were also made and showed possible effects of solute-vacancy complexes on the smearing of the angular correlation distributions. AbstractAbstract
[en] We modify the relativistic mean field model proposed by Walecka to handle differently the short-range interaction induced by the vector meson. There are three parameters in the modified model, which are then fixed by fitting them to the properties of nuclear matter at saturation. The equation of state for pure neutron matter is computed. Our results differ substantially from those obtained by Walecka, but are in line with those obtained from the potential approach. The maximum neutron star mass is found tobe 1.7 M/sub sun/

AbstractAbstract
[en] Phenomenological models of nuclear matter based on meson theory in the mean field approximation are investigated. In particular, the vector meson mean field functions is studied in detail. It is shown that the low experimental compression modulus of nuclear matter places severe constraint on the form of the vector meson mean field function. Meson mean field functions taking into account nuclear correlations effects are discussed. (orig.)
