AbstractAbstract
[en] 'HIRFL-CSR Cooler Storage Ring' makes use of existing HIRFL as its pre-accelerator. In order to take the full capability of HIRFL, the authors have studied in detailed the matching modes between HIRFL and CSR. It is proposed to use two matching modes; direct matching between SFC (HIRFL injector cyclotron) and CSRm (CSR main ring); three-cascade matching of SFC, SSC (HIRFL main cyclotron) and CSRm. With these combinations, better beam transmission efficiency, better beam utilization efficiency of HIRFL-CSR accelerator complex and better operation efficiency of HIRFL can be obtained. In the first case, SSC can be used simultaneously in other purposes, either to accelerate medium energy heavy ions or to accelerate protons combined with another small cyclotron

AbstractAbstract
[en] For the safety issue for top-up injection, the trajectory of the injection beam was tracked to find out in what kinds of conditions the injection beam would get through the synchrotron light beam pipe and cause radiation hazards. The forward tracking method is used with Accelerator Toolbox (AT) code. We enlarge injection beam phase space volume and reduce the beam line element to simplify the calculation while covering all the possibility. According to this simulation, the interlock criteria are set up for top-up operation. (authors)

[en] The flat-top technology is widely used to improve beam quality and raise beam current in many cyclotrons. The fundamental of the flat-top technology is described in this article, and the effects of the main parameters of the flat-top cavity, such as the frequency, the voltage and the stability, on the longitudinal phase space is discussed too

AbstractAbstract
[en] Eddy current effects should be considered in a accelerator with magnets ramping with a large repetition frequency. Field components like dipolar, quadrupolar and sextupolar ones and heating effects induced by eddy current effects will affect the chromaticities, tunes, resonance, etc. The field components and their effects on beam parameters in the ring are evaluated for difference ramping curves and ramping frequencies. The most important effect is found to be from sextupolar component in the frequency range of proton therapy, and other components will play more important roles when the repetition frequency increases. Accordingly, the ramping curve for operation is selected as a sinusoidal curve with ramping time of 0.7 s. (authors)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The layout of injection and extraction system were introduced in this paper. The horizontal and vertical injection acceptance are about 23 πmm·mrad and 37 πmm·mrad, respectively, while emittance of the injected beam is 9 πmm·mrad (3σ). This ensures the high injection efficiency. Three slow kickers can form a good bump. The inside position of the entrance of septum is set to 15 mm, where the bumped beam and the extraction beam are 10 mm and 22 mm, respectively, far from the booster central orbit. (authors)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Accelerator Driving System (ADS) is a new device for cleaning energy. A high intensity, high power proton beam provided by accelerators is used to drive a sub-critical nuclear reactor. It is safe, reliable and can produce less nuclear waste, and also ca be used to treat the nuclear waste from the classical reactor. An Energy Amplifier (EA), which is composed of three cyclotrons, is one type of ADS. It will be used to produce 14.4 MW proton beam (12 mA, 1.2 GeV) and to operate a 1500 MW nuclear reactor

AbstractAbstract
[en] In the commissioning stage of Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF) storage ring, several methods were used to correct the linear optics. Beam Based Alignment (BBA) was used for BPM- Quadrupole offsets measurement; Response matrix was used for orbit correction; LOCO was used for linear optics fitting, and quadrupoles strength were adjusted to correction the beta function ; coupling was measured and corrected by skew quadrupoles. After correction, closed orbit are reduced to 50/60 μm in hortizontal and vertical plane; β beating and dispersion errors are less than 1%; betatron tune and emmittance are closed to the design value; betatron coupling also can be adjusted from 0.02% to 2%. These methods have been proved to be useful for storage ring calibrations, with the help of these methods, SSRF storage ring can be tuned to the design model and other model easily. (authors)

AbstractAbstract
[en] There are 140 beam position monitors (BPMs) in the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF) storage ring used for measuring the closed orbit. As the BPM pickup electrodes are assembled directly on the vacuum chamber, it is important to calibrate the electrical center offset of the BPM to an adjacent quadrupole magnetic center. A beam based alignment (BBA) method which varies individual quadrupole magnet strength and observes its effects on the orbit is used to measure the BPM offsets in both the horizontal and vertical planes. It is a completely automated technique with various data processing methods. There are several parameters such as the strength change of the correctors and the quadrupoles which should be chosen carefully in real measurement. After several rounds of BBA measurement and closed orbit correction, these offsets are set to an accuracy better than 10 μm. In this paper we present the method of beam based calibration of BPMs, the experimental results of the SSRF storage ring, and the error analysis. (authors)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Tune optimization is necessary to optimize the nonlinearity of the third generation light source storage ring. In this paper we summarize the common strategies for choosing a tune and discuss tune optimization. Frequency Map Analysis (FMA) is applied as a tune scanning tool to reveal information about nonlinear resonances and guide the tune optimization. The Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF) storage ring is taken as a test lattice, and the optimum solutions are presented in this paper. Moreover, the third order regular structural resonances excited by sextupoles are particularly investigated, and it is found that these resonances distort the tune shifts with amplitude and show a stop-band like the linear structural resonances.?(authors)
