AbstractAbstract
[en] An investigation of γ-ray fold distributions has been carried out for the 97Mo(51V,zα yp xn) reaction. For the α2n channel leading to 142Eu a double-humped fold distribution was found. An explanation in terms of an incomplete-fusion reaction mechanism is proposed

AbstractAbstract
[en] A complete kinematic measurement of the 6Li(3He,3H)αpp reaction is performed at Elab=50 MeV, to investigate the cluster structure of 6Be. The energy and angular distributions of the breakup particles, emitted from the ground and first excited states of 6Be, are compared to three-body resonance and two-body sequential decay calculations. The results indicate a rather pure three-body configuration of the 2+ state of 6Be but they are not conclusive regarding the decay mode of the 0+ state. No branching ratio between sequential and three-body decay paths could be extracted. Excitations above the 2+ state were populated at Ex=1.67-23 MeV. Decay through 5Li-p and 2He-4He channels is identified in the continuum of 6Be, and the reaction mechanism is discussed.

AbstractAbstract
[en] When a left-handed and a right-handed nuclear system form in angular momentum space, a pair of nearly degenerate rotational bands is observed. To identify chiral symmetry most important is to establish near-degeneracy not only in excitation energies of the partner bands, but also in their intra-band and inter-band B(M1) and B(E2) transition probabilities. This needs dedicated lifetime measurements. Such measurements were performed for four bands of "1"9"4Tl. Two of these have very close near-degeneracy and form a prime candidate for best chiral pair. The lifetime measurements confirm the excellent near-degeneracy in this chiral pair. (paper)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The cranking model is used to describe rotational bands. We investigate the approach of using diabatic configurations and minimizing the particle-number projected energy in a mesh of both λ,Δ and deformation parameters. We use the method to interpret recent experimental data in 142Gd and conclude that for the highest spin states observed (I≅30), the nucleus is triaxial and builds spin by rotating around the classically unfavored longest axis

AbstractAbstract
[en] The DIAMANT-AFRODITE combination has been used to investigate incomplete fusions reactions via the 13C+170Er entrance channel. The intensity of 176Hf (populated via the α 3n exit channel) is ∼8% of 178W (populated via 5n evaporation) which is ∼8 times stronger than that expected from complete fusion. Moreover, 2αxn exit channels leading to Yb nuclei are observed with intensities that are ∼30-to-40% of 176Hf, for which no yield is expected from complete fusion. A comparison of the intensities from the two-α- and one-α-gated data is consistent with fragmentation of the 13C beam into (α-α-α-n) which suggests that the population of Yb nuclei results from fusion (or ''massive transfer'') of one the break-up α-particles. A campaign of measurements is scheduled for late 2007 with further investigations planned for 2008, including the continuation of the study of superdeformation in 32S

AbstractAbstract
[en] Lifetimes of high-spin states have been measured for 142Gd and 134Nd with EU-ROBALL IV and AFRODITE, respectively, using DSAM. From calculations in the cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky model it was concluded that at the high-spin states of the (+,0)1 band, 142Gd represents a triaxial nucleus rotating around the longest principal axis
