AbstractAbstract
[en] About four hundred one meter long, 10 cm wide and 5 mm thick extruded scintillating strips were measured at four different points. The results of measurements strip responses to a radioactive source 90Sr are provided, and details of strip choice, preparation, and method of measurement are included. This work was essential for prototyping a tail catcher and muon tracker for a future international electron positron linear collider detector

AbstractAbstract
[en] We present results on the operation and performance characteristics of the MRS (metal/resistor/semiconductor) photodiode. These include measurements of threshold characteristics, noise frequency, dependence of signal amplitude on the applied voltage and temperature, and stability as a function of time and radiation dose. The single photoelectron separation for this photosensor is demonstrated with a light emitting diode. The response of the photodetector to light produced in a scintillator is studied with cosmic ray muons and a 106Ru source. In addition, fiber-sensor alignment issues were evaluated. The results are promising and illustrate the potential use of MRS as photosensors in high-energy physics detectors

AbstractAbstract
[en] We report on a search for bottom squarks (b) produced in p bar p collisions at √ (s) =1.8 TeV using the DO/ detector at Fermilab. Bottom squarks are assumed to be produced in pairs and to decay to the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) and a b quark with a branching fraction of 100%. The LSP is assumed to be the lightest neutralino and stable. We set limits on the production cross section as a function of b mass and LSP mass. copyright 1999 The American Physical Society

AbstractAbstract
[en] We search for new physics using events with one high transverse energy photon, two or more jets, and an apparent imbalance in transverse energy, in pp collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron at √ (s) =1.8 TeV . Such events are predicted for production of supersymmetric particles in some models. No excess is observed beyond expected background. For the parameter space of the minimal supersymmetric standard model with branching fraction B(χ02→γthinspχ01)=1 and mχ02 -mχ01>20 GeV , we obtain a 95% confidence level lower mass limit of 310thinspthinspGeV for equal mass squarks and gluinos. The results are also interpreted in models with low energy gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking. copyright 1998 The American Physical Society

AbstractAbstract
[en] We report a measurement of the top quark mass using six candidate events for the process p bar p→t bar t+X→l+νbl-bar ν bar b+X, observed in the D0 experiment at the Fermilab p bar p collider. Using maximum likelihood fits to the dynamics of the decays, we measure a mass for the top quark of mt=168.4±12.3(stat)±3.6(syst) Gev. We combine this result with our previous measurement in the t bar t→l+jets channel to obtain mt=172.1±7.1 GeV as the best value of the mass of the top quark measured by D0. copyright 1999 The American Physical Society

AbstractAbstract
[en] DO/ has measured the inclusive production cross section of W and Z bosons in a sample of 13 pb-1 of data collected at the Fermilab Tevatron. The cross sections, multiplied by their leptonic branching fractions, for production in p bar p collisions at √ (s) =1.8 TeV are σW B(W→e ν)=2.36 ± 0.02 ± 0.08 ± 0.13nb, σ W B(W→μν)=2.09 ± 0.06 ± 0.22 ± 0.11nb, σ Z B(Z→e + e -)=0.218± 0.008 ± 0.008 ± 0.012nb, and σ Z B(Z→μ + μ -)=0.178 ± 0.022 ± 0.021± 0.009nb, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic; the third reflects the uncertainty in the integrated luminosity. For the combined electron and muon analyses, we find σ W B(W→ l ν)/σ Z B(Z→l +l -)=10.90 ± 0.52. Assuming standard model couplings, we use this result to determine the width of the W boson, and obtain Γ (W)=2.044 ± 0.097 GeV. copyright 1999 The American Physical Society

AbstractAbstract
[en] This paper presents the first measurement of inclusive J/ψ production cross section in the forward pseudorapidity region 2.5≤n-tildeηthinspJ/ψn-tilde≤3.7 in pp collisions at √ (s) =1.8 thinspthinspTeV. The results are based on 9.8 pb-1 of data collected using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The inclusive J/ψ cross section for transverse momenta between 1 and 16 GeV/c is compared with theoretical models of charmonium production. copyright 1998 The American Physical Society
