AbstractAbstract
[en] This article presents the main results of the radiation research on the spent fuel elements in HFETR. The spent fuel element irradiation facilities and its measurement results are described. It also gives the experimental results on the radiation crosslinking of polyethylene and radiation degradation of polytetrafluoroethylene by the spent fuel element irradiation. The value of the spent fuel elements as γ radiation source for radiation processing is well demonstrated

AbstractAbstract
[en] By using the characteristics of primary cooling system on HFETR(high flux engineering test reactor), the improvement of operating method is discussed. Based on the actual measured data, the calculating results of system resistance are presented. The results showed that the increase of the charge of fuel elements and the decrease of flow rate in primary cooling system by decreasing rotating speed of main pumps would lead a decrease of operating power, save energy and meet the demand of isotope production and test of fuel elements and materials. The main measures for improving the primary cooling system and the economic benefit owing to the improvement are introduced

[en] The performance of 80 and 60 fuel assemblies cores for High Flux Engineering Test Reactor (HFETR) has been compared with theoretical analysis and operating results. These results show that the core performance of 80 fuel assemblies is the same as that of 60 fuel assemblies in the following aspects: the permission power of core, the irradiation test of materials, the transmutation doping of single crystalline silicon, the production of Mo-Tc isotopes, etc. The core of 80 fuel assemblies is more convenient in operation after 500 kw test loop installed, and in greatly raising the production of 60Co source with high specific radioactivity and the usage of fuel. As compared to the production of 60Co source of 60 fuel assemblies core, the benefit of 80 fuel assemblies core can increase more than 3.8 millions RMB yuan per year. (2 refs., 2 tabs.)
