AbstractAbstract
[en] This report can be subdivided into two main parts. The first part concerns the reconstruction program which has been developed to analyse the data taken with the large solid angle detector SAPHIR which is in operation at the Bonn electron accelerator facility ELSA. A survey on this program is given and some improvements as well as the efficiency concerning real data are discussed. The subject of the second part concerns the measurements of the reactions γp→K+Λand γp→K+Σ0. The analysis of a sample of data taken with the SAPHIR in June 1992 is discussed in detail. As a result of this analysis total and differential cross sections as well as the recoil polarization for the two processes are presented. In particular the first measurement of the Σ0 polarization in photoproduction can be reported. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] For the offline-analysis at the Bonner SAPHIR-detector some further software tools have been developed, so that now nearly a complete offline-analysis chain is available for the reconstruction of charged particles in the SAPHIR drift chambers. This report describes the underlying concept and gives some detailed information about the approximation of the inhomogeneous magnetic field, the track reconstruction in the sideward drift chambers and the determination of the charged particle momenta. In addition the separation of pions, kaons and protons in hadronic final states by time-of-flight measurements and kinematics is discussed. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Sterilization of medical aid articles (e.g. catheters, one-way syringes) with ionizing radiation is a successful practice in many countries. During recent years, the results from numerous experiments of radiosterillization of pharmaceuticals and adjuvants have likewise been published. Experience has shown that radiation treatment, in many cases, is leading to transformations of the irradiated substances. In the present part IX of the bibliographic study on the influence of radiation treatment on pharmaceuticals and adjuvants the results of experiments on ca. 80 substances from 36 different sources have been evaluated. In all parts of the study results of about 560 experiments on 360 substances from 176 different sources are present. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Recent results on the proton structure functions from HERA are presented. The precise measurement of F2 allows the extraction of the gluon density via NLO QCD fits and an estimation of the longitudinal structure function FL. In addition results on the charm contribution to F2 are reported. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A new method to unfold experimental event distributions is presented. Monte Carlo simulated events are weighted iteratively in such a way that the distribution of the undistorted variables of the simulated events approximates the undistorted experimental distribution. The method is binning free, applicable to multivariate problems and easy to use. It is illustrated with a simple example and compared to a least square method with regularization. ((orig.))

AbstractAbstract
[en] A Forward Plug Calorimeter (FPC) for the ZEUS detector at HERA has been built as a shashlik lead-scintillator calorimeter with wave length shifter fiber readout. Before installation it was tested and calibrated using the X5 test beam facility of the SPS accelerator at CERN. Electron, muon and pion beams in the momentum range of 10-100 GeV/c were used. Results of these measurements are presented as well as a calibration monitoring system based on a 60Co source

AbstractAbstract
[en] The reactions γp→K+Λ and γp→K+Σ0 have been measured with the multiparticle detector system SAPHIR at ELSA in Bonn. Besides the differential cross sections the Λ polarization and, for the first time, the Σ0 polarization have been determined in a photon induced reaction. All data are presented as functions of the photon energy (from threshold up to 2.1 GeV) and of the Kaon production angle (00-1800). The polarization of both Λ and Σ0 is substantial at all energies and varies strongly with the production angle. copyright 1995 American Institute of Physics
