AbstractAbstract
[en] Low spin S-band members are established in 160,162Dy. The coupling between the S-band and the ground state band is significant in 160Dy, but unnoticed in the 162Dy isotope

AbstractAbstract
[en] The (3He, d) and (α, t) reactions on targets of 146Nd and 148Sm have been studied, using beams of 24 MeV 3He and 27 MeV 4He from the McMaster University tandem van de Graaff accelerator. Also the (t, α) reaction on a target of 148Sm has been studied, using 17 MeV tritons from the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratoy tandem accelerator. The reaction products were analyzed with magnetic spectrographs. Information on the l-values was obtained from (3He, d) angular distributions and from ratios of (α, t) and (3He, d) cross sections. In each nucleus a severe fragmentation of the shell-model strength is found. In particular a total of 13(7) l=2 transitions and 6(6) l=0 transitions have been identified in 147Pm(149Eu). The results are analyzed in terms of the spherical shell model, which accounts fairly well for the summed spectroscopic strengths. However, with the existence of the (t, α) data a more detailed investigation of the emptiness of individual levels observed in 147Pm gives some indication that a deformed scheme might be more successful in describing these nuclei. AbstractAbstract
[en] Cross sections were measured from 10 to 500 for the 41Ca(alpha,p) reaction at 25 MeV bombarding energy. The largest cross sections are observed for states which may be described mainly as (f/sub 7/2/)4 states. A semi-microscopic model is used to calculate relative transition strengths within DWBA. 1 figure, 1 table

AbstractAbstract
[en] A comparison has been made between the (p, α) and (t, α) reactions leading to 147149151Pm and 153155Eu. A strong correlation was observed between the cross sections in the two reaction types except for the results leading into 149Pm. Direct three-nucleon microscopic and cluster transfer reaction calculations and also two-step sequential transfer reaction calculations were made for the (p, α) angular distributions. Several sets of α optical model and bound state parameters were tried. The space of the predicted angular distributions were found to be determined by the α optical model and bound state parameters. The two-step sequential transfer calculations reproduced the magnitude of the 158Gd(p, α) data within a factor of two for all three parameter sets tried. (Auth

AbstractAbstract
[en] The 146Nd(d,t)145Nd reaction has been studied with: 16 MeV deuterons with a vector polarization of approximately 0.75 from the McMaster University tandem Van de Graff accelerator. Measurements were made at 13 angles from 5 to 450 using a magnetic spectrograph equipped with photographic emulsions in the focal plane. The measured analyzing powers for strongly populated levels are well described with standard distorted wave Born approximation calculations and made it possible to confirm previous spin assignments as well as give unambiguous assignments for some states for which the spin information was previously conflicting, incomplete, or lacking

AbstractAbstract
[en] Angular distributions have been measured for the 41Ca(α,p)44Sc reaction at a bombarding energy of 25 MeV. The emerging protons have been analysed with a magnetic spectrograph and recorded in photographic emulsions. Angular distributions for the 40Ca(α,p)43Sc reaction have been measured with Si(Li) detectors both for normalisation of the 41Ca(α,p)44Sc cross sections and to test the optical potential used in the DWBA description of the (α,p) reaction. Only positive parity states are observed below 1.6 MeV of excitation energy. The spectroscopic factors for these states have been calculated in a semi-microscopic model employing the f4sub(7/2) model wave functions of McCullen, Bayman and Zamick. Also the spectator description is discussed at some length. (Auth.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The 154SM(t,α) 153Pm reaction has been studied using a 17 MeV beam of polarized tritons from the tandem Van der Graaff accelerator at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory. The alpha spectra were recorded using a quadrupole-dipole-dipole-dipole magnetic spectrometer with a position-sensitive helical-cathode detector on the focal plane. Spectra were obtained to excitation energies > 2 MeV with a resolution of approx. 17 keV. It was possible to assign spins and parities to many of the levels by comparing the measured angular distributions of cross sections and analyzing powers with distorted-wave Born approximation predictions. The results are interpreted in terms of the Nilsson model with pairing and Coriolis mixing effects included. The 5/2-[532], 5/2+[413], 3/2+[411], and 1/2+[420] bands have been observed, as well as the 3/2-[541] and 3/2+[422] orbitals, which appear to be strongly Coriolis mixed with the 1/2-[550] and 1/2+[431] states, respectively. The results of these experiments confirm some of the assignments from a recent (d,3He) study and show that others were incorrect. Spectroscopic factors for the strongest transitions are in good agreement with expectations based on the model. The ground state Q value for the 154Sm(t,α)153Pm reaction was measured to be 10.748 +- 0.020 MeV
