[en] Elastic and inelastic electron scattering from helium isotopes is studied. The elastic scattering data were extended to a higher region of momentum transfer. These high q data are important for an understanding of the asymptotic behavior of the structure function and for the most precise quantitative study of the nuclear wave function with very high spatial resolution. Additional information is expected to be provided on the failure of microscopic calculation to understand the existing data near q² = 0.8 GeV²/c². Preliminary charge form factors are considered. A striking result is that the best N-N potentials cannot reproduce the central depression found in the experimental results. It seems clear that these measurements supply relatively unambiguous information about the short-range behavior of the nuclear force. 8 references

[en] Counts per bin are given as preliminary results of an experiment measuring elastic electron reactions with helium-3 and -4. Analysis of the high resolution data taken in the threshold and quasielastic regions is still in progress. 2 references

[en] It is pointed out that the slow-roll equation of New Inflationary Universe Models is not true in general for interacting field theories. In particular, the use of the effective potential is not generally valid. A set of conditions under which it is relevant are determined, but it is argued that they are unlikely to be satisfied by a hot primordial universe

[en] A superconducting dipole magnet was installed in the Fermilab primary beam line. Targets were inserted in the proton beam upstream of the magnet and measurements made of the energy deposition within the magnet sufficient to cause quenching. The primary objective was to measure the cross section for the reaction π⁺ + ³H → γ + ³He, which when compared with an existing measurement of the inverse process provides a test of the principle of detailed balance
