AbstractAbstract
[en] We report the result of a beam test of a flash chamber calorimeter to be used as a nucleon decay detector. The capabilities and limitations of this type of calorimeter with a second generation experiment in mind are discussed

AbstractAbstract
[en] An electromagnetic calorimeter composed of proportional tubes and lead layers has been developed. The proportional tubes were made out of conductive plastic tubes and 50 um wires which made a complete conical geometry possible with reading out appropriately patterned pick up electrodes on the outside of the tubes. Two generations of prototype modules have been built and tested by high energy electrons and hadrons. Good energy resolution and position resolution were obtained. Other properties were also extensively studied

AbstractAbstract
[en] The inclusive production of π+ for 0.4 <= psub(T) < 1.0 GeV/c in pion-nucleus and proton-nucleus collisions at 4.3 GeV/c was measured. A strong A-dependence of the cross sections at high psub(T) is observed to be persistent in the low energy region. The ratio of the cross sections for proton-nucleus and pion-nucleus collisions is also observed to be compatible with the quark-parton picture, for psub(T) > 0.6 GeV/c. (Auth.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Direct production of single electrons in proton-nucleus collisions at 13 GeV/c has been measured. A rising e/π ratio with decreasing psub(T) above the 10-4 level is observed for low psub(T) single electrons. The source of the rising e/π ratio at low psub(T) is discussed in connection with the low mass dielectron continuum below the rho mass region. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A measurement of direct production of electron pairs of masses below 1.3 GeV in proton-nucleus collisions at 13 GeV/c has been performed using a two-arm spectrometer. An enhanced low mass dielectron continuum below the rho mass is observed and is discussed in terms of the mechanism of soft annihilation of partons. (orig.)
