AbstractAbstract
[en] We present numerical estimates for the various signatures of a neutral Higgs particle produced in the radiative decays V → H + γ, of a heavy vector onium state V (=J/psi,UPSILON,UPSILONt). We suggest to enhance the Higgs signal by requiring a correlation with weakly decaying states. (tau, charm, bottom) or with strange particles from charm and bottom. Rates for the processes e+e- → V → H + γ → >= 1 lepton + γ + anything, >= 2 kaons + γ + anything are presented, and the effects of the lepton energy cuts on the first of the two processes are evaluated. AbstractAbstract
[en] Using data obtained with the TASSO detector at PETRA, results are presented on weak-electromagnetic effects in lepton and charmed quark production. Using the semileptonic decay of the b quark, a determination of the branching ratio B.R. (B→l/sigma phi//CHI/) is made and indications of weak-electromagnetic interference effects are presented. Inclusive π, K, p, Λ, /rho/0 and D cross-sections are presented and the consequences of these measurements for the fragmentation picture is given. Finally, upper limits are given for the production of new scalar particles

AbstractAbstract
[en] This chapter shows how the annihilation of e+e- provides the simplest laboratory to produce any kind of charged pointlike particles; discusses the size of leptons; limits on the production of a new lepton; quark production; total cross section; events produced in a two jet form; quarks as 1/2 particles; correlating leading particles in the two jets; three jet events; spin of the third jet; and jet fragmentation; concludes that leptons are point-like down to 10-16 cm; hadron production in e+e- is mainly consistent with the picture of quark pair production; three jet production is clearly seen in e+e- annihilation, consistent with the QCD prediction for hard gluon bremsstrahlung; experimental results show a strong preference for a theory of vector gluons; and large baryon production is observed in e+e- annihilation

AbstractAbstract
[en] A new type of thin multiwire gas detector operating in a high gain mode has been developed. Its characteristics have been optimized for calorimetric use. The setup for mass production, quality control and calibration for the OPAL Pole Tip Calorimeter Chambers is presented as an application of such a device. Other possible applications as an electromagnetic presampler as well as its use in a high resolution calorimeter are also discussed. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Recent experimental results indicate that the top mass might be above 50 GeV. This would allow for a very light Higgs boson. A technique is suggested for extracting a light-Higgs-boson signal using the reaction e+e-→Z0→qq-barH0→qq-barμ+μ-. The proposed technique is sensitive to a H0 signal for m/sub H/<1 GeV with less than ∼105 Z0 events

AbstractAbstract
[en] The availability of an order-of-magnitude increase in the luminosity of LEP (CERN's Large Electron-Positron Collider) can dramatically increase its physics output. With the help of a pretzel scheme, it should be possible to increase the peak luminosity beyond 1032 cm-2 s-1 at the Z energy and to significantly increase the luminosity around the W-pari threshold. This report spells out the physics possibilities opened up by the availability of several 107Z events. The three domains of physics that benefit mostly from this abundance are very accurate measurements of Standard Model parameters, rare decays of the Z, and the physics of fermion-antifermion states such as B physics. The possibilities and implications for the machine and the experiments are presented. The physics possibilities are explored and compared with those at other accelerators. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A scintillation counter hodoscope with 1 mm granularity using fiber optic light guides was designed for use in a 200-GeV secondary hadron beam. Special care was taken to position the scintillators with high accuracy. The efficiency in a beam of 2.5*106 particles/sec is 98%
