AbstractAbstract
[en] The gas detection offered by the present invention is characterized by the detection of CO as distinct from H2. The optimum structure of the device therefor has an electrolytic cell wherein the electrode surfaces of a working electrode, a counter electrode and a reference electrode are kept in contact with electrolyte and wherein the open sides at both ends of the vessel containing the electrolyte are sealed by the working electrode, the counter electrode and the reference electrode; means for connecting between the working electrode and the counter electrode and means for applying a predetermined a voltage between the working electrode and the reference electrode, wherein sensitivity of the working electrode to carbon monoxide and hydrogen gas is smaller than that of the reference electrode

AbstractAbstract
[en] The hypernuclear spectroscopy via the (e, e'Κ+) reaction has been carried out for the first time. The high quality electron beam at Jefferson Lab made it possible to measure Λ hypernuclear spectra with energy resolution better than 1 MeV (FWHM). The present experiment was designed to make full use of virtual photon flux which peaks at very forward angles by detecting scattered electrons at 0 degrees. The Λ12B mass spectrum was measured in the 12C(e, e'Κ+)Λ12B reaction with 0.9 MeV (FWHM) energy resolution. The binding energy and cross section of the Λ12B ground state doublet were obtained and discussed in this report. The present study proved the effectiveness of the (e, e'Κ+) reaction in the future Λ hypernuclear spectroscopy. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Luminescence dynamics of CdS-doped glasses were measured using up-conversion technique, and they were compared with transmission dynamics. An analysis of the decay curves of luminescence and transmission dynamics has been performed using a multi-exponential fit. Although slower decay component is large in transmission dynamics, it is negligibly small in luminescence dynamics. This difference is observed in all samples investigated, and this may be caused by the difference in relaxation paths of electrons and holes in CdS nanocrystals. Effect of induced absorption on transmission dynamics was examined

AbstractAbstract
[en] Effects of Ti and C additions on structural and magnetic properties of FexB/Nd2Fe14B-type nanocomposite permanent magnets (x=3 or ((23)/(6))) prepared by means of rapid solidification and subsequent annealing in a B-rich and Nd-poor composition range are reported. Addition of Ti suppresses formation of primary Fe and promotes formation of ferromagnetic iron-borides. Carbon addition is effective for grain refinement and suppression of unfavorable formation of TiB2, resulting in improvement of magnetic properties. Compositional adjustments have yielded a series of FexB/Nd2Fe14B-type isotropic nanocomposite permanent magnets with magnetic performance comparable to near-single-phase isotropic melt-spun magnets in a composition range B>10 at% and Nd<10 at%

AbstractAbstract
[en] A basic design of the next-generation charged-particle irradiation system in NIRS-HIMAC that contains a three-dimensional spot-scanning irradiation-method and a rotating gantry is now going on. To determine a rough building design, it is important to estimate a wall-thickness of radiation controlled area. We evaluated and calculated neutron dose of (1) a treatment room, (2) a high-energy beam transport room and (3) a outer wall of HIMAC. Then, we used two calculation methods, one is Hirayama-Ban formula and the other is a multi-purpose Particle and Heavy Ion Transport code System (PHITS). These data are used for a detailed building design in the future. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Thermoluminescence has been observed in X-ray irradiated CdS-doped glasses. The intensity of thermoluminescence is proportional to X-ray dose. This indicates that CdS-doped glasses are possibly used as materials for radiation dosimetry. Thermoluminescence of CdS-doped glass was compared with that of phosphor for commercial radiation dosimeter. Effects of light irradiation were also examined

AbstractAbstract
[en] The authors carried out a series of elastic-plastic analyses for the circumferentially cracked pipes loaded in four-point bending. They obtained the load-displacement, the J-displacement curves and the crack opening area for the cracks with various configurations. Based upon these curves an engineering approach has been applied to estimate the stable growth and instability of a surface crack. The Battelle's experiment about the crack growth has been estimated well by this analysis. The results have been compared with those obtained by the line spring method. (orig./HP)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Rapid solidification process of Nd2Fe14B-based nanocrystalline permanent-magnet alloys and crystallization processes of the relevant amorphous alloys are investigated. Accumulated experimental results are discussed in terms of temperature-time-transformation diagrams for Nd4Fe77.5B18.5. Solidification and crystallization kinetics is strongly influenced by minor amounts of additives, particularly Cr, Cu, Nb, and Zr, knowledge of which has been applied to design alloy composition. Development of a high coercivity Fe3B/Nd2Fe14B-type nanocomposite magnet based on Nd-Dy-Fe-B-Cr-Co-Cu-Nb/Zr is described as an example

AbstractAbstract
[en] Kimura's disease is a rare disorder which predominantly involves the head and neck region and causes eosinophilia in peripheral blood. It often responds well to corticosteroid therapy but some patients can be resistant; in these patients symptomatic radiation therapy can be of value. We reviewed 10 patients with Kimura's disease who received radiation therapy from 1975 through 1981 in the Department of Radiology, Chiba University Hospital. Nineteen tumors were irradiated and 15 of them locally controlled. In 5 patients, steroid therapy could be withdrawn. For local control, 25 to 30 Gy seemed to be adequate. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Experimental data on the charge-evolution functions Fq(D), including equilibrium fractions F∞q, are presented when 4.3 MeV/u C2+ and 6.0 MeV/u Mg5+, Ca6+ and Kr13+ ions from the NIRS-HIMAC injector linac passed through carbon foils with the thickness over D=10-350 μg/cm2 range. The revised experimental F∞q values for 6.0 MeV/u C2+, Ne4+, Si5+, Ar8+, Fe9+ and Cu10+ ions previously reported are also given. The charge equilibrium thicknesses DE for bare and H-like ions are evaluated for projectiles lighter than Ca. The Fq(D),F∞q and DE data are compared with the results calculated by the ETACHA code and the statistical model. It was found that the ETACHA code can reproduce quite well the observed Fq(D), F∞q and DE data for projectiles lighter than Si (atomic number Z=14) but the discrepancy becomes serious for heavier ions. The prediction of the statistical model for the equilibrium charge-state fractions F∞q agrees well with the observed experimental data for ions with Z>18, i.e. heavier than argon
