[en] Application of benzenetrimethylammonium dichloroiodate (PhCH2NMe3)+ (ICl2)- (1) to chlorination of arylaliphatic 1,5-diketones is described. It is shown that during chlorination of 1,5-diphenyl-3-R-1,5-pentadiones using 1 as chlorination agent at room temperature in acetic acid or dimethylformamide with preparative yields it proved possible to prepare stereoisomers of 2-chlor-1,5-diphenyl-3-R-1,5-penthane-diones
