AbstractAbstract
[en] Two problems in the γ-γ-coincidence method for depth discrimination in scintigraphy are discussed. Firstly, the FW(1/e)M of the distribution function of time differences between 'coincident' pulses has been calculated to be the optimum resolving time for measurement of true coincidences. Secondly, the improvement of time resolution of such an apparatus by substituting a large volume NaI(Tl) crystal by an array of many small ones has been analysed. It was shown that such arrays have no practical advantage since the loss in efficiency is of the same order of magnitude as the gain in time resolution. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Xe-133 is inhaled in a concentration of 2 μCi per ml oxygen for 1 minute. Usually the patient is in a sitting position. The arterial influx of Xe and the renal concentrations to the left and to the right are measured indirectly using external scintillation detectors, a 15 minutes follow up is needed. The kidney collimators were optimized for counting efficiency. Localization of detectors above the kidneys is done by injection of 10 μCi of I-131-hippuran, half an hour before the inhalation of Xe starts. A model of 3 compartments is accepted for the interpretation of the kidney curves. The fastest component represents the cortical flow. For analysis a computer program is used. A clinical example is presented: a case of nephroptosis
