AbstractAbstract
[en] During several years, the KARMEN experiment was reporting for an anomalous signal which was interpreted as a possible existence of heavy sterile neutrinos. The NOMAD experiment has the capability to search for such an isosinglet neutrino. It is assumed that the (νs) couples to the νt produced in the SPS neutrino beam at CERN. Analysis of NOMAD data leads to a single candidate event, compatible with the background expectations. This allows to set for the first time a limit on the mixing strength between sterile and tau neutrinos, in the mass range 10 to 190 MeV. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Whether the neutrinos are massive or not is one of the most puzzling question of physics today. If they are massive, they can contribute significantly to the Dark Matter of the Universe. An other consequence of a non-zero mass of neutrinos is that they might oscillate from one flavor to another. This oscillation process is by now the only way to detect a neutrino with a mass in the few eV range. Several neutrino experiments are currently looking for such an oscillation, in different modes, using different techniques. An overview of the experimental situation for neutrino experiments at accelerators is given. (author). 9 refs., 5 figs., 5 tabs

AbstractAbstract
[en] We present the results on the production of bottom quarks in proton-antiproton collisions at √s=630 GeV in the UA1 experiment. The measurements obtained for different muon samples, for transverse momentum in the range 5 GeV/c < Pt < 35 GeV/c, are compared with QCD predictions for the shape of the differential cross-section, and from extrapolation at low transverse momentum, the total cross-section for bottom production is estimated

AbstractAbstract
[en] An electronic system, designed to provide a relative calibration for the readout of the CMS electromagnetic calorimeter (CMS-ECAL), is described. On request, this system injects a pulse at the input of a predetermined group of preamplifiers with preselected amplitude and a shape identical to the one produced by the photodetectors. Several chips, in DMILL 0.8 μm technology, have been developed for integration on the front-end electronics. We describe the principle, the testing, the measurement of their precision, and radiation hardness

AbstractAbstract
[en] The NOMAD experiment includes a transition radiation detector that provides a 103 pion rejection factor, for a 90% electron identification efficiency. Such a rejection factor is required in the search of νμ →ντ oscillations in the τ electron decay channel and in the search for νμ →νe oscillations. Algorithms used for the electron-pion discrimination and results obtained on the data are described. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The EUSO experiment is currently under study by ESA for a possible installation on the International Space Station. The experiment is designed to study, by means of a space-based observational apparatus, the Extensive Air Showers produced in the atmosphere by Extreme High-Energy Cosmic Rays. The design of a fast, single-photon sensitive photo-detector in the near UV, covering a large area with a few hundreds thousands pixels, and suitable for 3 years of operation in space is a challenging task. The basic aspects of the current EUSO photo-detector design, based on the presently known requirements and constraints, and the results of the preliminary studies carried on so far will be described

AbstractAbstract
[en] A new contact-free approach for measuring simultaneously electric and magnetic field is reported, which considers the use of a low energy ion source, a set of three transmission gratings and a position sensitive detector. Recently tested with antiprotons (Aghion et al., 2014) [1] at the CERN Antiproton Decelerator facility, this paper extends the proof of principle of a moiré deflectometer (Oberthaler et al., 1996) [2] for distinguishing electric from magnetic fields and opens the route to precision measurements when one is not limited by the ion source intensity. The apparatus presented, whose resolution is mainly limited by the shot noise is able to measure fields as low as 9 mVm−1 Hz−1/2 for electric component and 100 μG Hz−1/2 for the magnetic component. Scaled to 100 nm pitch for the gratings, accessible with current state-of-the-art technology [3], the moiré fieldmeter would be able to measure fields as low as 22 μVm−1 Hz−1/2 and 0.2 μG Hz−1/2.
