AbstractAbstract
[en] Nb and Ta are found to exhibit a range of coordination numbers (CN) from 10 to 17 in their alloys with group IIIb and IVb elements. The IIIb and IVb elements in these binary alloys have a CN ranging from 6 to 14. The polyhedra around Nb, Ta, IIIb and IVb elements have been characterized and a description of the polyhedra in terms of certain symbols is suggested. The structures of the binary alloys considered have been described in terms of polyhedra packing. Most of the structures examined so far could be built up with one or two polyhedra, only in a few cases are more than two polyhedra required. (Auth.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The magnetic structure of Ho5Ge4, space group Pnma is studied by neutron diffraction. Between 21 and 18 K the refined three dimensional canted magnetic structure is described in the Pn'm'a' (GAMMAsub(5u) and k = 0) space group. The magnetic moment values of the three Ho positions are 6.9, 5.2, 5.8 μsub(B). Below 18 K through a second order transition an additional phase Psub(a) (GAMMAsub(1k) and k = 1/2 00) appears. The two structures refined simultaneously at 6 K seem to be in equal amounts and have their moments close to the (010) plane

AbstractAbstract
[en] The chemical and magnetic structures of the intermetallic compound Nd5Ge4 were determined from neutron diffraction powder data. In contrast to the isomorphous heavy rare-earth compounds, Nd5Ge4 orders with a canted ferrimagnetic arrangement below Tsub(c) = 52 K. The ordered Nd moments are 2.6, 3.1 and 2.4 μsub(B) for the three sites respectively. The magnetic space group is Pnm'a' and the plane of easy magnetization (010). (author)
