AbstractAbstract
[en] An improved method is described for rapidly incorporating ''carrier-free'' 111In into m-tetraphenylporphine to produce a lipid soluble complex of potential clinical usefulness. The reaction in glacial acetic acid is temperature dependent and markedly sensitive to the nature of the anion present. Halide ions completely inhibit incorporation of the 111In. An unusual destruction of the porphyrin ring by nitrate in glacial acetic acid is reported. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Metal binding is essential for the diagnostic use of bleomycins, as they are used as a vehicle to carry the radioactive metal to tumour tissues. The stability of the metal bleomycin is therefore important. The reaction of a solution of cobalt bleomycin with air has been investigated spectroscopically. The visible spectrum of the cobalt bleomycin changed with the passage of air. Further changes occurred in the spectrum over 24 hours. The spectra showed that at least three forms of cobalt bleomycin exist in a solution containing stoichiometric amounts of cobalt and bleomycin. Oxygenation was rapid but conversion of the intermediate to the final compound took place with a time scale of hours. (U.K.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A comparison is made between arsenic pentoxide, arsenic trioxide and arsenic metal as target materials for the cyclotron production of 77Br by the 75As(α, 2n) 77Br reaction. Theoretical thick target yields are calculated. A method of producing 77Br is described which is more reliable and has given a higher production rate than the previously published method. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] An attempt has been made to develop quantitative structure-distribution relationships for 99Tc-HIDA complexes. 99Tc has been complexed with 26 HIDA ligands, and their biodistribution determined. Lipophilicity of the ligands was determined by MPLC. A linear relationship between lipophilicity of the ligand and renal clearance was established. (U.K.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The author has discovered a class of neutral, seven-coordinate technetium complexes which show great promise as in vivo radiodiagnostic agents. These complexes, which have been isolated and characterized, are the first reported examples of clathrochelate-like complexes in which capping with a Lewis acid occurs at one end only. They consist of technetium(III) chelated to three vicinal dioxime molecules which are capped at one end by a derivatized boron atom. At the other end the complex is stabilized by a three oxygen, two proton bridge system between the oximes. There is also a monodentate axial ligand bound to the technetium atom trans to one of the dioxime molecules. The complexes show some lability of the axial ligand but are otherwise inert. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy shows the binding energy of the axial ligand to be mid-way between that of a covalent and an electrostatic bond. A variety of complexes have been made containing different oximes, boron derivatives and axial ligands and they have been characterized by NMR, IR, mass spectrometry, HPLC, elemental analysis, conductivity and x-ray crystallography

AbstractAbstract
[en] Technetium-99 3d binding energies were measured for a set of 12 compounds which included model species and several potential radiopharmaceuticals. The range of compounds from the free metal to the technetium(VII) valence state gave a span of 4.9 eV. Anionic and coordinated halogen was distinguished in the chlorine 2p and bromine 3d spectra of a number of phosphine complexes. Similar spectra of two dioxime complexes indicated significantly more electron density on the halogen than is the case for a coordinated species. The result is indicative of weakening of the metal-chlorine bond. Analogous spectra were obtained when bromine was substituted for chlorine. The boron 1s binding energy for boronic acid present in the dioxime complexes was in agreement with the proposed oxygen population on the boron atom
