AbstractAbstract
[en] The weight loss of stainless steel in corrosion with iodine vapor was studied at 500 to 10000C and an iodine vapor pressure range of 0.05 to 0.5 mm Hg, using a thermobalance. In the initial stage of corrosion, the weight loss rate is largely influenced by solution treatment or surface treatment; the induction period, observed for solution-treated samples, is shortened or eliminated by fission-fragment irradiation, ion-bombardment or mechanical polishing, and in some cases corrosion is even accelerated by the surface treatments. A constant weight loss region follows the initial stage of corrosion. In this region, the weight loss rate is not dependent on treatment to the samples, and has a linear relationship with the vapor pressure of iodine. The rate is the largest at about 800 and 7500C for AISI 316 s. s. and AISI 304 s. s. The rates in general are larger for AISI 304 s. s. than for AISI 316 s. s. below 7000C but almost the same above 8000C. Corrosion product layer is observed on the surface of the sample below 7000C. Based on these findings, the corrosion process is discussed. The deposition of corrosion product in a temperature gradient tube is also described

[en] JT-60 power supplies have been under operation from 1985 with some components of them being modified in shutdown period of JT-60 to satisfy the operational requirements in the plasma experiments. Especially, in 1987, to achieve the extended plasma current operations of 3.2MA in limiter and 2.7MA in magnetic separatrix configurations, the output current capabilities of JT-60 power supplies were enhanced by installing a booster thyristor convertor and so on. Here, such operational experiences, including relevant modifications, of JT-60 power supplies are described. And also, the present status of JT-60 power supplies for the operation in 1988 is mentioned. (author). 6 refs.; 4 figs

[en] We have grown blue (480 nm) nitride semiconductor light emitting diodes (LEDs) by plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) on GaN templates. Packaged devices exhibited output powers up to 0.87 mW at 20 mA forward current. The corresponding external quantum efficiency was 1.68%. Utilizing a combination of direct current (dc) and pulsed electroluminescence measurements it has been demonstrated that at low (<20 mA) dc conditions the emission from these devices is governed by the combined effects of bandfilling and screening of electrostatic fields. However, at larger currents device heating dominates the emission properties

AbstractAbstract
[en] Three forms of electron or x-ray holography 'by contrast' are discussed: they all exploit small changes in diffraction conditions to improve image quality and/or extract additional information. Spin-polarized photoelectron holography subtracts spin-down from spin-up holograms so as to image the relative orientations of atomic magnetic moments around an emitter atom. Differential photoelectron holography subtracts holograms taken at slightly different energies so as to overcome the forward-scattering problem that normally degrades the three-dimensional imaging of atoms, particularly for emitter atoms that are part of a bulk substrate environment. Resonant x-ray fluorescence holography also subtracts holograms at slightly different energies, these being chosen above and below an absorption edge of a constituent atom, thus allowing the selective imaging of that type of atom, or what has been referred to as imaging 'in true colour'.
