AbstractAbstract
[en] According to the patent X-ray and soft gamma semiconductor detector equipped with berillium window can have longer life-time if a new, protecting, hermetic polymer layer covering the outside surface of the window is applied. 3 claims concerning the procedure to cover the surface by a prefabricated film or by a film produced by spraying are specified. AbstractAbstract
[en] A nondestructive method has been developed for the determination of Sr, Y and Zr in bauxite based on a Si(Li) detector and an 125I source. The X-ray spectra have a FWHM resolution of 380 eV at 6.4 keV. The measuring time was 30 minutes for a 0.2 mCi exciting source. A sensitivity of about 10 ppm for Sr, Y and Zr was found choosing 30 min measuring time. The relative error of the reproducibility is < 5% for a few hundred ppm concentration. For Ga an upper limit of 100 ppm is given. (T.I.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Three different methods were used for the determination of the effective incident angle related to EDXRF when radioisotope annular sources are involved: weighted averaging, Compton peak method and minimization of the difference between the certificated and measured concentrations of six international standard samples. By measuring the Compton peak energies of various analytical reagent grade elements and compounds, it was found that the incoherent peak energy depends on the mean atomic number of the matrix, so the effective incident angle is also matrix dependent. AbstractAbstract
[en] The X-ray fluorescence method was applied to determine the macro- and microelement content (K, Co, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Ga, As, Se, Br, Sr, Zr, Mo) of plant samples. As results indicate the X-ray fluorescence analysis is suitable for the quantitative analysis of samples of plant and animal origin, as well as for that of the soils of numerous components. The preparation of samples is simple, no special qualification is required. All components of a sample with a higher atomic number than the one of P can be determined at the same time. The instrument works automatically, by means of a simple, sample changing equipment; it works even continuously all day round and needs only minimal handling. The evaluation of the spectra may be done quickly and precisely by a computer. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The applicability of thermal neutron activation analysis and X-ray fluorescence analysis for the determination of Na, Cl, I and S concentration in mineral waters has been investigated. A 0.4-mg Cf-252 neutron source in water moderator and a Ge(Li) detector for neutron-activation analysis as well as a Fe-55 exciting source and a Si(Li) detector for X-ray fluorescence analysis were used in the investigations. Sensitivity for Na, Cl and I is about 10 ppm, for S about 30 ppm. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The iron content of bauxites of different origin were determined by fast neutron activation analysis and X-ray fluorescence method, using a 252Cf fission neutron source in non-scattering geometry and Ge(Li) detector as well as 125I exciting source and Si(Li) detector, respectively. For the determination of Mn thermal neutron activation analysis was used. The sensitivity for iron is 1.15w% with an absolute statistical error less than 5% in the case of fast neutron activation analysis, while for the X-ray method the sensitivity is 0.06 w% and the absolute statistical error is 0.4% in the case of 8 g sample weight. The sensitivity of NAA method for the determination of Mn is 0.001 w% with an absolute statistical error of 1.7%. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The concentrations of K, Ca, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, Br, Pb, Sr, Zr and Mo were determined in corn leaf samples by XRF. Two methods of sample preparation are given. A precise quantity of Mo and Cu was added to the prepared samples and the determination of Mo and Fe concentrations were made directly on the basis of calibration curves. The concentrations of the other elements were calculated from the excitation functions giving relative intensity changes. The excitation sources were 125I and 55Fe. (H.E.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The problems of using mosses to be used as biomonitors of fallout are discussed and partially solved. In 1987, a national project was initiated to produce a fallout map of Hungary for the 137Cs isotope. The species of moss chosen for this study are presented, and their collection is described. The activity concentrations of 137Cs and 134Cs were determined. The study of retention of radiocesium and correlation studies are reported, and the national survey of 137Cs fallout using moss sampled is evaluated. (N.T.) 8 refs.; 5 figs

AbstractAbstract
[en] A system was designed for the determination and discrimination of ingredients in an automatic transport and measuring system of a plastics factory. The materials are discriminated on the basis of their different average atomic weight, which is measured by X-ray fluorescence analysis. The materials of low atomic weight are separated on the basis of their different specific weight measured by the attenuation of X-rays. The system is fully automated. (D.Gy.)
