AbstractAbstract
[en] Since 1985 quality controls are carried out on a 13 years old LINAC and two Cobalt 60 units (one older apparatus, no longer in use, and the 2 year old replacement) at regular intervals. By essentially following the WHO indications, the controls are grouped at four levels: daily, weekly, monthly and yearly. The controls are all carried out by the Medical Physics Department technicians. The metrological equipment used is also controlled periodically. The above controls are included in the physical and technical QA program for the radiotherapy process, which also includes controls on the simulator and the therapy planning system, only begun this year. The review of all the data collected in these ten years is presented and the data are drown on graphics divided by type of controls or examined parameters as function of time. The maintenance and the spare part replacements are indicated. This study tries to understand if it is possible to avoid stopping of the machines from the shape of the curves or the number of corrective actions before the breakdowns. The analysis concerns tests on mechanical, geometric and beam performance and on light-field accuracy. The results of the controls are examined by also taking account of the operator who carries out the test to observe any difference. Obviously the validity of the results is confined to the therapy units considered and their functional characterises
