AbstractAbstract
[en] For e+e--annihilation a procedure is described to select events of a given multiplicity of jets. The procedure is demonstrated by applying it to a Monte-Carlo sample of e+e- multihadron final states. Selection of three jet events is shown to be somewhat better than more conventional techniques. AbstractAbstract
[en] A study of clustering of four- and six-prong events is presented. The used 'Valley-seeking' method does not need any a priori knowledge about the clusters. The classification of each event is done using the kinematical information contained in the whole sample of events. The clusters found have correspondence to dynamical mechanisms. The method is suitable to get first informations for not well known reaction channels and also to reduce background and therefore to see small effects in known reaction channels. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A position-sensitive photomultiplier with 256 anode pixels has been used to read-out scintillating fibers excited by light emitting diodes, electrons from a β-source and a 5 GeV electron beam. Measurements have been done with a magnetic field up to 0.6 T. Tracking and electromagnetic shower detection capabilities of a simple fiber detector have been studied. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A scintillating fiber detector is described, which shall be applied in a forward proton spectrometer supplementing the H1 detector. This detector has been tested with cosmic rays, and an average point resolution of 63μm is obtained together with an average efficiency per double layer of 93%. (HSI)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Different prototypes of fiber detectors with an internal trigger system were tested in a 5 GeV electron beam at DESY. A silicon microstrip telescope was used for an external reference measurement of the beam to study the spatial resolution of the fiber detectors. On average 75% of all crossing electron tracks could be reconstructed with a precision better than 150 μm. These successful methodical investigations led to the installation of similar detectors in the proton beamline 81 m downstream of the central H1-detector at HERA as part of a forward proton spectrometer in spring 1994. AbstractAbstract
[en] Investigating three different types of position sensitive photomultipliers, the H4140 and H4139-20 of Hamamatsu and the XP1724A of Philips, we confirm the producers parameters for all devices. However both the H4140 and XP1724A have been found to have problems to detect the right fiber position at low light levels. The main difficulty for large cross talk devices is the non-uniform response of anode pixels. For the H4139-20 very low cross talk and high sensitivity even for low light levels were found. Responding to light signals the device produces additional noise with amplitudes considerably above the normal random noise. Nevertheless, using the H4139-20 for reading out 1 mm diameter fibers illuminated by traversing cosmic particles we measure efficiencies near to the theoretical maximum. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Using the freon filled bubble chamber SKAT at the Serpukhov accelerator we study event charge distributions in neutrino and antineutrino charged current reactions in the (anti)neutrino energy region from 3-30 GeV. We derive from the data the total cross section ratios of reactions on neutrons to reactions on protons Rν=2.24±0.18 and R sub(anti ν)=0.43±0.10 in agreement with the predictions of the quark parton model. These values agree also with other experimental results at different energies. For neutrino reactions we study additionally the differential distributions in Bjorken variables x and y. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A setup designed for the investigation of the properties of coherent scintillating fiber bundles and ribbons is described in some detail. The fiber readout is realized by a three stage image intensifier chain and a CCD matrix. A silicon strip detector telescope defines a precise reference system. The results of first measurements in a 5 GeV/c hadron beam at the CERN proton synchrotron demonstrate the capabilities of the apparatus. (orig.)
